02 | Kaspian

Kaspian Auclair missed his home.  He missed the rugged plains with the crystal clear sky.  He missed the stampedes of cattle each morning, old-country beer, and lakes.

Someday he would go back home and build his own empire in that very state- Texas.  It would be much better run than the Chateau de Chastillians, and everyone would be treated with respect, even the servants.

Yet time and time again he was yanked back into reality where he was sitting with his friends in London, England.

He was in hell.

Normally he liked to spend the day with his buddies.  It got his mind off of things.  After all, he grew up with them.  The annoyance he had was partially due to the fact that he hadn't had any blood since this morning and his throat was growing itchy.  To second that, Mackenzie was back to his normal ways of bickering with Nox, and she was dishing back everything she was getting, perhaps even more.

Mackenzie was commonly on the losing side of their arguments.

Naturally, Zara was there to balance them out.  She also proved as a distraction for Kas so he could focus on her instead of the hopeless other two vampires.

Except she was busy this morning finding a man by the name of Matteo Puddu.

Their fathers' stupid men had searched for weeks to find him but to no avail.  Luckily, they had Zara Delcour in their arsenal.

Nobody found and captured people the way she did.  Perhaps it was her looks.  The way her nose pointed up right above her plump lips.  Or her hips that jutted out just slightly, but enough to make somebody notice.

And Kaspian sure had.

Every moment for the past thousand years from when he'd met her in London to now.

As if the universe heard his pleas, Kas heard the familiar sound of red stilettos hitting the floor.  He turned and saw something he'd seen so many times before yet it would never get old.

Zara Delcour smiled brightly at their group as she walked towards them, her stunning hips swaying.

Once again, every time he saw her he felt like he was being burnt at stake, and he understood why she was so good at tracking people down and getting them to do what they want.

And that caused a pang of something he didn't feel too often- jealousy.

"Oh, finally you're here!" Nox exclaimed, her voice soft a silk.  When you first looked at her she reminded you of a fawn.  That was until she opened her mouth and said a foul insult to Mackenzie.

Sometimes the things that came out of her mouth made Kas pray to any God ever to forgive her for the language she used.

Although Mackenzie's father didn't need prayers or pleas with Nox; no he used her in the best way he knew possible.  Kaspian also knew how terrified his best friend became every time Nox was called away to deal with something or someone solo, despite Mackenzie's best efforts to hide it.

"Kas," Zara said, pulling him out of his thoughts.  "I believe I was promised ice cream."

"I never said that in my note," Kaspian says, narrowing his eyes at the brunette.  Despite not saying it, everybody knew their schedule.  On Mondays, the four of them went to the parlor for ice cream in the afternoon, and then a fancy restaurant for dinner.  Tuesdays they spent learning about their mission during the weekend.  Wednesdays were their free days.  Thursdays were filled with assassinations of pesky people who knew too much, or a big dazzling event.  Lastly, the weekend (Friday-Sun) was for the big stuff that needed to be dealt with.
