ZYLITH.

‘Us!!? Whatever does he mean?' I frowned in confusion.

Reuben, in turn clearly read my facial expression of utter confusion, and leisurely explained, "What I mean is that you will no longer return to the palace. It is far too dangerous for you to stay in the palace any longer."

"And why is that?" I couldn't help asking with knitted brows.

"Because the Queen Dowager has torn off her face with you; Not to mention that she is literally blackmailing you to backstab me, she even dared to question our love and tried to separate the two of us lovebirds? How could I tolerate such an offence?" Reuben's overdramatic self decided to possess him as he started sprouting nonsense.

The corner of my lips twitched with irritation when I heard his stagey blether.

"....." I glared at the guy with a deadpanned face, for I didn't know what to say to such gibberish crap, and someone had once said, 'Silence is the best answer to all kinds of nonsense'.

"My, why stare at me like that, Lizzy? If you're trying to seduce this king, consider yourself successful, for I have been under your spell since a long time ago." He gibbered more with a confident smirk and now, even the corner of my eye started twitching as I pressed my lips tightly into a thin line.

"Your Majesty." I uttered with gritted teeth.

"Hmm?" And he responded cheerily.

"Can you please stop with this nonsense and be serious for once?" I grumbled while fuming.

"Oh dear! Did I anger my Queen? But, forgive me my nonsense, as I also forgive the nonsense of my darling Queen who thinks she talks sense all the time." And I was literally grinding my teeth to keep myself from doing something unthinkable.

"So... according to His Majesty, I talk nonsense all the time?" I looked at him pointedly, daring him to say ‘yes’. If he did say ‘yes’, I was so prepared to bestow him with all the fancy curses in my personal vocab.

I think Reuben sensed my oncoming bouts of vengeful retaliation, because in the nick of time, he wisely decided to back off, "....Well, whenever did I say that? The Queen is the most sensible, judicious and far-sighted lady I'd ever came across."

And my face had a wooden look on, while my eyes looked like they could bore big-ass holes into his empty skull.

"I'd rather you didn't say anything in the first place. Now I just feel insulted." I grumbled with a stony expression.

"Pfft!" And he had the gall to laugh! I whipped my head sharply at him as my glare bored holes into him, warning him, 'One more word. Just one more...'

"(Ahem!) I did not mean to be sarcastic. I truly think my Queen is the most virtuous of all. Anyways, it's almost dawn, I suggest we take a little rest before we head off towards the South tomorrow." Sensing my foul mood, he very tactically changed the topic.

I had to applaud Reuben for his excellent survival instincts. He knew exactly when to yield and withdraw.

"Are you sure you want to take me along with you?" I asked again to confirm his arrangement. "I mean, won't we alert the Queen Dowager if I run away from the palace right after she had so publicly threatened me?"

"You do not need to worry about such trivial matters. I shall personally handle this. And about the Duke of Ronales, I have taken care of him as well. So, just rest assured and all you need to do is follow me around with ease." He said with an enigmatic simper to his face.

I hated it that Reuben always talked in riddles with me, and never really confided in me at all. As if, all I needed to do was stay by his side and look pretty until he really needed me for something. Made him seem more like a misogynist, but what else could I do, he was the boss after all. What he says, goes. Hence, I tactfully shut my mouth and got ready to retire for the night.

"Where is my room?" I asked as I looked around the now empty tavern.

Reuben in turn, looked at me with a light mysterious smile and bowed down to turn over the gorgeous carpet under our feet. And then he touched the wooden floor to reveal a complicated set of magical runes. His hands moved in weird gestures over the runes as they shone with a faint white light. And then, before my very eyes, a pathway towards the underground opened up with polished wooden stairs going down below.

Reuben got up and looked at me, and gently gestured me to go down first.

I stared at him in a weird manner, a bit speechless, and then stepped forward to go downstairs towards this said resting chamber.

When I finally reached the end of the wooden stairs, what graced my eyes was an equally luxurious room, it did not look like a room built six feet under the ground, but rather the interior of a lavish villa room, very shiny and comfortable.

"Like it?" Reuben, who followed suit spoke from behind me. I was indeed dazzled by the sight, but what irked me was that there was only one room, and a single king-sized bed in the centre of it all.

"Yes. It's nice here, but.... where are you gonna rest?" I asked with uncertainty.

Reuben smiled in a manner which I did not find pleasing to the eye at all, and what he said next really had me on the verge of blowing up my casket, "Dear Fake Lizzy,  we are a legally married husband and wife, so of course I'm going to rest with my wife. Are you being shy now? What are you fretting about? What had this husband of yours not seen yet? There's nothing to hide." His teasing tone really got me good and I was almost dying with anger.

Even if we shared the same room before, he seldom came to my palace because he was generally very busy and we hardly ever had any chance to sleep in together after our first night of marriage. So, it was understandable and obvious that I would feel uncomfortable with sharing a room with a man, even if he were my husband. Reuben was well aware of that but he still took the pleasure in making fun of me.
