"It's yo birthday, bitch!
Get down on one knee
and chug!"
I let out a roaring laugh
as Leyna shoves an Ice drink in my hand
and blasts Birthday Bitch on her phone.
"Chug chug chug!"
She bellows
as I brace myself for the start
of an endless night.
In one swift movement,
I twist the top off of the raspberry Ice drink,
get on one knee,
and perform my civic duties
as a newly turned 21-year-old.
The slight bitter taste
infiltrates my tongue
as the alcohol burns my throat
and warms my chest.
In just under 30 seconds,
I manage to gulp down the last few drops.
Leyna's cheers pierce my ears
as I slam the bottle down on the table.
"Wooh!"
I bellow as I stand up
in a bit of a daze.
Leyna wraps her arms tightly around me
as we both burst
into a fit of laughter.
"Now that's what 21 looks like, baby!"
She gives me a big
sloppy kiss on the cheek,
before giving me one last squeeze.
"Welcome to young adulthood."
