The Point of No Return (Part 3) - Apocalypse!AU - Armin x Reader

Start from the beginning

"I've always admired your determination and fire," she commented as (F/N) got to her feet and grabbed her hand, hauling her up and grinning.

"What can I say? I learned from the best," she teased. Mikasa couldn't help but let a quiet laugh escape. She knew that when the time came, (F/N) would end her; and that was the only way she was willing to go.

Together they walked back to where the group waited, Jean with his arms crossed impatiently and Eren with a bright smile on his face as he saw his two of his three favorites coming back.

"Everything good?" He asked when they got close enough. Both girls nodded, a silent mutual agreement passing between them to only tell Eren and Armin when they could get them alone and away from Reiner and Bertholdt.

"Then let's fucking go already," Jean groaned, pushing himself off of the car he had been leaning on. Marco sighed at his impatience but smiled at everyone else as they continued walking to the hopefully useful RV.

-

"Holy shit, almost a full tank!"

"You're joking," (F/N) scoffed, walking up behind Jean and peering over his shoulder at the gas dial. He hadn't been exaggerating; the needle was almost on the F at the top.

"They must have stopped at that gas station that's always cheap. Last I saw, it was under two dollars," Armin commented as he appeared by (F/N)'s side. "Hopefully we can maneuver around these other cars and get to some clearer roads."

"It shouldn't be too hard," (F/N) smiled over at the blonde. "I saw some pretty decent gaps that we should be able to get through."

"I can take first drive," Reiner offered as he stepped on board. (F/N) narrowed her eyes at his words.

"No, that's alright. I'll take it," she told him. "Did you see any keys, Jean?"

He frowned and glanced down at the empty key ignition before checking the cup holders and surrounding areas. "No. They aren't around here."

"I have them."

(F/N)'s glare intensified as she turned to Reiner, who dangled the set of keys between his thumb and forefinger. "Why?"

He frowned innocently. "I told you, I was going to take first drive, so I went ahead and took them."

"Well since I'm taking first drive, I'll take them, please," she responded with a voice of steel, holding her hand out as Reiner dropped them into her palm. "Thanks."

He shrugged and moved over to the table, sitting across from Bertholdt.

"Move, horsey," (F/N) snapped her fingers twice at Jean, who stood up and went towards the back while grumbling under his breath. She slid into the seat as Armin sat in the passenger side, inserting the keys into the ignition and turning.

The RV rumbled to life, and she nearly began jumping around in celebration. Instead, she grinned widely and clapped her hands.

"It's alive!" She cheered drumming on the steering wheel excitedly.

"Are we ready to go?" Eren asked as he climbed inside and pulled the door shut.

Armin looked back at him and nodded. "About as ready as we'll ever be."

Eren beamed at him and walked into the back, situating himself between Marco and Mikasa on the couch. Armin didn't miss the glare Jean shot him from the other side of Marco.

"Where's Sash and Connie?"

"In that bedroom in the back. She still isn't calmed down," Armin answered. He lowered his voice as (F/N) shifted the RV into drive. "What's going on? Is everything okay?"

(F/N) pursed her lips as she lightly tapped on the gas pedal. "I'll explain later." Armin looked like he wanted to argue for more information, but kept his mouth shut and looked out the windshield as (F/N) slowly moved the giant vehicle around the abandoned cars.

It took a while, but after nearly two hours of careful maneuvering and even running over a stiff here and there, (F/N) had managed to guide the RV onto open road and was now driving at a steady speed of eighty.

It was quiet in the RV, and she could hear Armin snoring beside her. She took a brief moment to look over at him and smile gently. He was so precious and she just wanted to snuggle him to her chest forever.

"I think it's time for you to take a break."

She jumped at the sudden voice and swiveled around to scowl at Reiner.

"I told you thirty minutes ago that I was fine. Quit asking me," she snapped before turning her attention back to the deserted road.

"Why are you being so cold towards me?" He demanded, crossing his arms.

"Maybe because you broke my nose and gave me a black eye? Maybe because I don't fucking trust you," she hissed back, hands tightening on the steering wheel.

Reiner's eye twitched at her response. "And why don't you trust me? Why won't you let me drive?"

"Why are you so insistent on driving?"

His eyes narrowed and next thing (F/N) knew, he had drawn his gun and shoved against the back of her head.

"Enough of this bullshit," he growled. "Stop the fucking vehicle."

(F/N)'s eyes had gone wide and her heart rate had picked up as she eased on the brakes, letting the RV come to a gentle stop. Reiner reached over and shifted it into park, never taking his gun away from her.

Armin had woken up when the RV stopped, and was now staring at Reiner like he had grown an extra two heads.

"Reiner, what are you doing?" He asked, slowly rising from his seat.

"Put it down, Reiner," Eren said coolly as he came up behind the blonde, his own gun in his hands.

"I think you should put it down, Eren."

Bertholdt stood up, his hand wrapped around Mikasa's arm and a gun against her temple. If Mikasa hadn't of grown so weak, she could have easily wrestled out of his grip and thrown him to the ground; but the bite had killed her energy and she felt weaker than a new born baby.

The RV was silent and tense. Sasha and Connie had come out of the room, and Jean and Marco could only gape at the showdown.

(F/N) could hardly breathe properly as she stared out the front windshield, her hands up in surrender as Reiner poked her with the barrel of the gun.

"Get up," he ordered. She obeyed, moving slowly around him without taking her eyes away from his. Reiner pointed with his gun to the living area of the RV. "Go in there. Now. You too, Armin."

The blonde male shook as he followed (F/N), his eyes panicked and confused.

Reiner turned his body as they walked, not once lowering his weapon. His eyes flickered over to Eren. "Drop it and go."

He narrowed his turquoise eyes. "Hell no."

Bertholdt clicked the safety off of his gun and pressed it harder against Mikasa. "Listen to him, Eren."

A flicker of hesitation flickered through his eyes, and after a few moments of debating, he dropped his gun and walked backwards towards Armin.

Bertholdt stepped towards Reiner with Mikasa in tow. Reiner reached down and ripped the latter's sleeve away, revealing the bite.

He smirked. "Just as I suspected." His gaze swept the rest of the group. "Take a good long look, everyone." He shoved her back towards them, making her stumble and fall to her knees in front of Eren, who stared down at her in horror.

"Mikasa..."

"Now that we've all gotten through that, we'll be taking over this RV now," Reiner announced as Bertholdt slid into the drivers seat. "And to keep you all busy for the remainder of this drive..."

His grin never faltered as he aimed. It widened when her eyes expanded.

And he laughed as he pulled the trigger.
