"Hey, what's going on?" She asked, staring down at the two. "Did you guys hear us? We found an RV, why aren't you coming?"
Sasha's crying only increased as Mikasa looked up with a grave expression which in return filled (F/N)'s gut with dread.
"I've been bitten."
And there it was. The very last sentence anyone ever wanted to hear nowadays. The one thing that no one wanted to happen.
It was heartbreaking for Mikasa to watch the strongest person she knew break. It was heartbreaking for her to watch as (F/N)'s eyes pooled with salty tears as she sunk down to her knees in defeat. It was heartbreaking for her to watch the tears spill over and stream down (F/N)'s face in a waterfall of despair and agony, a trembling hand covering her mouth as those awful sobbing noises started up.
(F/N)'s crying made Sasha look up with sniff, wiping her face with her sleeve and getting to her feet.
"I'll give you two some time," she said quietly, hiccuping and still attempting to stop the water works. She walked off, following behind the rest of the group, who had paused upon realizing the missing females. Sasha shook her head when she approached them, eyes cast to the ground as she went right up to Connie and hugged him tightly.
"When?" (F/N) choked out. Mikasa gave her a pointed look. "When you were pinned to the ground earlier?" She nodded, lips set in a straight line.
"I need you to be strong about this," Mikasa told her. She reached out to latch onto (F/N)'s wrist to make sure she was paying attention. "You can't fall apart now. They need you."
"Show me," (F/N) said suddenly. "Show me the bite."
Mikasa sighed but complied with her request, raising her arm and rolling her sleeve back to reveal the bloody mark on her forearm.
"Mikasa..." she breathed, gingerly holding her arm and observing the bite. Almost like she thought that by staring at it hard enough it would go away and everything would be all better.
"(F/N), listen to me. Reiner and Bertholdt; you can't trust them."
She blinked in surprise. Sure, she expected that about Reiner, but Bertholdt? He seemed harmless. "Why?"
Mikasa pursed her lips. "They're up to something. Something is off about them. I don't know what or why, but I can just feel it. Your mother used to tell us to trust our gut right? Well my gut is telling me that they're bad. Just please be careful around them. Don't trust them."
(F/N) nodded slowly. She trusted Mikasa; her instincts had always been good and usually right. She trusted Mikasa, and if Mikasa didn't trust Bertholdt and Reiner, then neither would she.
"Okay," she whispered. "Okay. I believe you."
She nodded once, relieved that she could get that off of her chest. She leaned backwards to properly sit on her butt and leaned against the car with a deep sigh.
"Leave me here." (F/N)'s eyebrows shot up.
"What? No way!"
"It's not safe to take me with you."
"I don't give a shit. You're in it for the long haul. I'm not leaving you here to turn into one of those things."
"Then kill me here."
(F/N) grit her teeth in annoyance. "No, Mikasa. You're coming with me whether you want to or not. Even if I have to drag you." The ghost of a smile appeared on Mikasa's lips despite her condition and she looked up at her closest friend - no, her sister - and nodded, holding her hand out.
