Finally, I was finished getting ready. I grabbed my little bag, which contained any thing I could possibly need tonight. Taking a deep breath, I made my way down the stairs.
I did not want my tio to see me, so I quickly snuck out the door. There was already a crowd making their way to the Madrigals. I waited for what seemed like forever for the crowd to die down so I could slip in and follow them. It wasn't a long walk to get to the house from my tios place. Already, I could see the bright, beautiful light emitting from the building.
My heart started beating faster and faster as I neared the house. Sure, I was nervous about all the people.. but I was also really excited.
I finally made it to the entrance, taken aback by all the bright colors. There was a boy greeting everyone who came in, and he looked to be around my age. He seemed to notice me, too, and walked over to me with more energy than I could ever have.
"Hola, hermosa! Welcome to the casita! My names Camilo Madrigal!" Camilo grinned. I only blushed at his words, slightly turning away out of embarrassment. "I don't think I've ever seen you around before.." He furrowed his eyebrows in thought.
"Oh.. Well, I don't get out much. Not at all, really. My names Y/N L/N.." I averted eye contact. Just met. Too awkward. I'm not sure what I was expecting tonight, but the thought of a Madrigal calling me beautiful definitely didn't cross my mind.
"Then I might as well accompany you, hm?" Camilo offered. I hesitated at first, but soon nodded and slipped my arm between his.
We started to walk into the casita and Camilo began to talk about his family. "My sister, Dolores can hear anything. And my little brother, Antonio, is getting his gift today! Then there's my cousins.. You'll meet them later."
"What's uh.. Your gift?" I asked. I heard a soft chuckle and then.. whoosh.. I was now standing next to.. myself? Shapeshifting! That's what it was..!
He started shapeshifting into a bunch of different townspeople and I couldn't help but giggle. It was a pretty entertaining power and I could see why it would be useful.
"Pretty cool, right? I don't wanna be rude or anything but I probably have the best gift in my entire family." He said proudly, shifting back to his normal form.
"Yes, yes. Very cool." I answered, shaking my head softly.
"Tell me, hermosa.. What do you like to do for fun?" Camilo asked, leaning against the nearest wall.
"When I lived in the city, I would sew a lot and occasionally I did some water color painting.. Now I'm not allowed to do either.. It makes me miss the city." I shrugged, looking down with a disheartened expression.
"Ay, I'm sure you'd love it here if you just got out more." The shapeshifter crossed his arms, "Wait.. who's stopping you from sewing and painting?"
"My tio. I'm not really sure why he doesn't want me to do what I love, but it's not like I can do anything about it. He barely lets me leave the house!"
Camilo pushed himself off the wall and put his arm around my shoulder, "Well he sounds like an absolute jerk. I'll tell you what.. I bet my cousin, Mirabel, has some sewing stuff you could borrow. We could go ask her after the ceremony.. Which is starting now.. Cmon!"
Camilo grabbed me by the wrist and pulled me to a set of stairs.. that wasn't there the last time I was in that area. Beyond the stairs was a blank door. Camilo had briefly explained the doors earlier and since the door was blank, it meant it was the one Antonio would revive his gift at.
{Timeskip brought to you by Y/Ns awful Tio}
The ceremony went well. The darling little Antonio got the amazing gift of being able to understand animals.
So many people were dancing while I stood off to the side. Camilo was with his brother, celebrating.
I was slightly swaying to the music, which I could barely hear over the crowd, when I heard my name being called.
"Y/N!" Camilo ran over to me, his brother holding his hand, "Why aren't you dancing?"
"Oh, I haven't danced in years. I don't want to embarrass myse-"
I couldn't even finish my sentence before Camilo shifted into me and did what's got to be the funniest dance I have ever seen. Then I realized that people would probably think that was me whenever he shapeshifted back.
"Wait, no. Stop-" I tried to contain my laughter and act serious, but it was really hard to, especially since Antonio was giggling like crazy.
"Fine, fine." Camilo changed back, with a sly smirk, "But only if you dance~."
"Ah, nope. I'm not dancing." I shook my head and crossed my arms.
"Nonsense, hermosa. Isn't this.. like.. your first night out since you moved here? You should definitely make the most of it!" Camilo nudged me towards an empty area in the middle of the room.
I couldn't really argue with that, so, with a reddened face, I begun to dance.
"There you go! See it isn't too bad, right?" Camilo took my hand and twirled me around. I laughed nervously, trying not to lose my balance and fall. (for camilo-/j)
We continued to dance. I was so happy. After those weeks of misery, I was actually having fun. But the fact that it would be my only night out crept into my mind every other second, ruining my joyful mood.
"Are you okay, Y/N?" Little Antonia tugged on the skirt of my dress. I looked down to see him and his colorful toucan.
"Everything's great, Antonio!" I half-lied, using a smile to cover it up.
Before Antonio could respond, a frantic shout coming from the crowd interrupted him..
"The house is in danger!"
