Things were great that summer. Annabeth decided to stay with me for the summer, considering I was staying for the fun of it. Grover came by every little while, but he spent most of his days looking for Pan. I remember lying on the ground, looking up at the stary night with Annabeth, thinking of all the wonderful things that lay in store for the next day. For once I believed that nothing could upset my summer. Boy was I wrong.
"Wise girl?" I called, finding the Athena cabin empty of the normal playful buzz.
Most of the Athena cabin had left for a hike, Annabeth had stayed, but she wan't in there which bugged me. One thing I hated was not knowing where my best friend was. To be quite honest, I never trusted her alone.
I leave and head to the lake, another favorite spot of hers, including mine. As I climb the hill, a familiar curl of blonde hair mounded on top of an alert head pokes up. I grin, wise girl. "Seaweed brain." Annabeth nodded, giving me her pleasant sign she wasn't about to cut me into a million pieces.
"I thought I'd find you here." I say, a little quite.
She looks at me, her brows furrowing together. Damn she was cute when she was worried. "Everything good?" She asked.
"I-" My response was cut short because Faith, top girl Ares cabin, came running down, her eyes full of excitement and wonder.
"Percy...you have a cabin mate!" She said breathlessly, still trying to catch her breath.
My heart froze, I had a sibling? Better yet-I had a cabin-mate! Annabeth and I raced down to my cabin, stopping when we saw the door open. I was a little nervous but mostly excited. We walked in, the fresh smell of the sea whipping into me. It was probably my most favorite part of camp, besides the mess hall of course.
A young girl around our age stood in the middle of the room, taking in the beauty. She was tall, but shorter than me. Her hair was jet black, and when she turned to look at us, I found the same identical sea green eyes that I had. "You're identical." Annabeth breathed, taking the girl in with glances back at me.
"My names Emerald Kings." The girl said, her voice smooth and crisp, full of attitude and understanding. She held out her hand which I shook. I was greeted with a strong firm shake. Of course not as strong as Annabeth's.
"I'm-"
"-Percy, I know, my mom speaks of you often." She replied, turning and resuming her walk around the cabin.
"So, we're siblings I guess?" I asked, still confused on the whole "Demi-gods parents mating with different humans" idea.
"No. I'm not even related to you. Daughter of Oceanus actually." She replied, turning to look at me once more.
I took all the information in. It still didn't explain why she was in the Poseidon cabin then. But I guessed it was because she was daughter of a sea god. I just nodded and turned to Annabeth. She was studying the girl very closely, but when she noticed me staring she turned to me. "Uh, I think it's time for greek lessons?"
"Yeah about that, I'm going to stay back and ask Emerald a few things, if you don't mind." I said, studying Annabeth closely...very closely.
She had a hint of fire in her eyes, was it..no she doesn't feel-was it jealousy? She nodded slowly and turned to leave. I tried to say something but I just stood there like the fool I was, not realizing I had hurt my best friend.
"She's fine, get over it." Emerald said from behind me.
I turned to see her with her hands on her hips. She tossed her black hair behind her before exploring further into the cabin. It wasn't big, but I guess it looked big to me when I first entered all those years ago.
"Listen, for the record: we aren't siblings." Emerald stated, not turning her head. After that I left, trying to find Annabeth. I wasn't really sure what Emerald had meant by that statement, but I forgot about it.
I didn't find Annabeth or Emerald till dinner that night, little did I know, it was the last peaceful dinner for me for a while.
