It wasn't difficult to believe that after one encounter all those months ago, I'd be completely under her spell. Smitten.

There was just something about her that called to me. A call I couldn't ignore, or I'd suffer peril by my own hand.

To retract from such a pull, would be akin to resigning myself to a life of misery, only surpassed by the pain of ignorance. Of not knowing that my love existed. That there was someone for me.

If I was to make it up to my love, I would have to do something; perform an act that would resonate deep within her, show her how much she meant to me.

Others may appreciate gifts, money, maybe even diamonds, but there were two things that mattered most to my Paege. She craved connection and absolutely adored horses.

What better way to connect with her, to reaffirm the magnitude of my feelings for her, but over a meal?

The night we'd share on the beach had checked several, if not all, of her boxes so I decided upon making a picnic dinner to share with her.

Bioluminescent Plankton was out of the picture, but I hope that what I gave of myself would be enough to reassure her.

After packing the items in a brown paper bag, I left the kitchen, descending the porch steps to my pickup truck.

The ride over, my confidence was all over the place as I was uncertain she would take what I offered.

When I eventually rolled up to the B'n'B, I turned the key, killing the engine. I sat there for a while doubting myself, flipping through the keys as I contemplated making a U-turn.

Fortunately and after careful consideration, my will won.

Deciding it was for the best, I grabbed the brown paper bag by the handle, opening and shutting the door before making my way up the porch steps.

Before I could even knock on the door, one of the Florette's pulled it open to reveal a knowing smile on her face.

"Good evening, Daniel," The Florette greeted before adding, "It sure took you the time the sun revolves around the earth to reach over here. I'm pleased to see you didn't come empty-handed."

"Good evening, Ms. May," I offered a smile and she nodded, stepping back to allow me inside.

"She's up in her room," Ms. May gestured to the stairway and I nodded briefly, my gaze drifting to the other guests who were out on the patio, enjoying themselves with what looked to be light refreshments and a little music.

"Thank you, Ms. May," A smile crept onto my lips at her eager assistance. If nothing else, it was clear that she wanted us to kiss and make up. And I really appreciated that.

She left to attend to her affairs, leaving me to my own devices before I took the liberty of climbing the stairs to my baby's room.

My nerves were in a bundle with each step closer to my destination.

The nagging sensation that Paege might turn me away at the door gripped me, but I pressed on, praying to God that she wouldn't.

We were too far gone to allow an external party to maintain control and have that much of an effect on our happiness. Regardless of how slow we decided to take things.

Finally, I made it up the steps and in front of her door.

Knots began to form in my stomach, forcing me to take a few deep breaths before I could even consider making my presence known.

Knocking lightly on the door, my nerves were all over the place and my bravery seemed to dissipate almost instantly upon the gesture, leaving me stranded outside her room.
