The great Katsuki Bakugo knows about fear.

Bakugo has been through a lot of battles back when he was a teenager, fighting alongside his classmates and friends. He has been taken hostage by the league of villians and faced off death more than he can count in one hand. He has laid out his life thousand of times as a Pro Hero, risking everything for the sake of his life's purpose and goal.

But he has always faced everything head on with his unwavering strength and determination.

Until he saw you crash in a nearby office, taking the villain with you.

His world stopped as he watched helplessly at the televised fight that was being showed in the main area of the new agency he has built with Deku. Bakugo felt his body go cold, his breathing hitch as the screen zoomed in to the crumbling building. Policemen were all shouting for people to evacuate, to leave the premises just incase the building crumbles and falls. He could see the fear in people's eyes and he could tell they were all thinking the same damn thing.

Did Mermaid win?

Dynamight left the office, blasting off as fast as he can to where the battle was taking place in. He forced his way inside the building, Deku right behind him.

"Y/N! Fuck, answer me!" Bakugo got his gauntlets ready, in case the villain jumps out from the deserted office. You were just supposed to be out for patrol, that's what you told him when you texted him from Ryukyu's agency. You were supposed to send him a message that you returned and how boring everything was that day.

This is not supposed to happen.

His heart feared for the worst. Although he knew that these certain things happen to him, to you as Pro Heroes. But these things never really happened to you, never has he seen you be that bloodied up, your Hero costume almost torn up, and your eyes filled with that unfamiliar desperation to end the battle before you hit this building.

This is not supposed to happen.

Not when he was able to have prevented it.

"...'suki."

He heard it. It was soft, barely even a whisper. His eyes frantically looked around, combing the place with his eyes. His hand shaking as he saw you "Fuck."

You lay broken on the floor, an unconscious villain a few inches by you. Your eyes can barely see his silhouette but you can recognize his voice even as your consciousness drifted away. With your good arm, you weakly reached out to him, "Katsuki..." You manage to mumble out before he rushed over to your form, lifting you carefully and looking at your wounds and injuries. You let out a moan as he moved your broken left arm, you could feel you have broken some more bones when you crashed but you won...right?

"...did I win?" You lift your eyes to look at your hazy boyfriend. It was a good thing that your eyesight was blurred out by the blood from the cuts on your head or else you would have seen him crying, that was something you can't handle.

Especially if he was crying over you.

Bakugo cradled you in his strong arms, "Yes." He answered you before lifting you up. He was still in fear of you slipping in and out of life, you were not in the state for him to let out a sigh of relief. You have never looked so broken, so weak.

"Get her out." Deku dealt with the villain and Bakugo wordlessly walked out of the building with you in his arms. He could feel his whole body trembling but you barely noticed it as you were giving all you can to stay awake.

There was an ambulance waiting and Bakugo let the medics take you from him. He didn't put up a fight, he was too weak to even shout at them for handling you so roughly. You were one of the celebrated rookies in the business, can't they handle you better? But even if he wanted to, Bakugo wasn't that confident that he can take you to the hospital on his own as he was afraid he'll be too consumed by his emotions to continue.

He was watching you on the verge of death and he knew he was powerless to do anything about it. Instead, he kept your hand in his as if holding you down and fearing that you'll fly away if he lets you go.

The doctors did all they can to save you as you kept on slipping out from their hands. You lost too much blood, broke so much bones, and even Recovery Girl could barely help you. You were too weak, if she does anything...you'll surely lose your lifeline.

Bakugo waited for hours for your operation to finish. He didn't go home to change, it didn't even cross his mind how weird that he was in full gear while seated in the waiting area. He kept on wincing whenever the operating room would open, as though fearing that one doctor would have the guts to tell him that they couldn't save you. He kept on crying, rubbing his eyes with the heel of his palms and barely noticing that he has been waiting for five hours. In fact, he didn't know it has been five hours until your friends came over.

"How is she, man?"
"Doctor hasn't come out yet."

They all saw the battle. They knew you were strong and capable but seeing someone they love fighting like that, in the precipice of losing and dying, crushed them. When they saw Bakugo carrying you out of the building, they feared the worst.

But you didn't lose this battle.

Recovery Girl came out of the operating room, meeting the anxious faces of the students she once welcomed in the infirmary back in UA.

"She will be fine."

Bakugo never left your side for the entire two weeks of your stay in the hospital. He sat on your bedside, taking your hand and watching you asleep and alive, with the quiet desperation he has seen in you in that news. He could understand it now, why you felt that way because unfortunately he feels that way too. He just want you to open your eyes, to cup his face with both of your hands, and to tell him that everything will be fine.

Please be fine.

He repeated this like a prayer, chanting it again and again.

Until one day, he felt you give his hand a weak squeeze. Bakugo has been barely sleeping and he couldn't tell if this was his body's way of telling him to surrender to sleep or if you were now conscious.

Was this a dream?

"Y/N? Love?" He jolted awake, searching your body for some sort of life. With all the things stuck on you like a lifeline, he couldn't tell if it was just his imagination working overtime hoping for the best.

"'suki." Your voice was as weak as when he heard you call for him before but it brought him so much joy.

You were alive.

You were fucking alive.

"God, Y/N."

"Not even close. You could've settled for angel Y/N." Your failed attempt at humor made him laugh softly even through his tears.

God, you were alive.

"Let me call the doctor." He stood up and leaned forward to caress your skin. Some of your wounds have healed up, some were still present but you were as perfect as always in his eyes. "Do you want anything?"

You looked at him, seeing the relief in his eyes and the tears running down his cheeks. "Katsuki, stay with me for a bit." You knew the fuss the doctors and the nurses will give when they find out that you're awake so you just want to take this time to enjoy Katsuki's presence.

"Okay." He kissed you and leaned his forehead with yours. "Fuck, you scared me. Don't do that again, dumbass." Was all he could manage to say through his emotions.

You chuckled but you wince, "Damn, that must have been one hell of a fight huh?"

"It was. People have been wishing you're okay." He murmured as he took in your face, wondering how he could ever go through life without you. "Our friends came over yesterday. They'll be happy to know you're awake. God, you're okay."

He was trying to resist the urge to hug you so he will indulge himself in holding your hand and kissing your skin instead.

"I promised you, 'suki."
"What?"
"That I will never lose to anyone."

Bakugo nodded, wiping his tears with his free hand.

"I love you."
"I love you too."
