The cold crept inexorably into my bones.

Shivering, I covered the last few metres to our newfound house.

Somehow my father had regained his wealth.

Even if I didn't doubt that my little sister had something to do with it.

When she had returned in between, she had told me about her current situation and I couldn't help but shake my head.

I had failed!

All along the line...

If I had gone with that High Lord, my sisters would all have been safe, I told myself day after day.

But I had failed as their big sister.

That thought had permanently lodged itself in my mind.

Stumbling, I came to a stop in front of the door and breathed in the unfamiliar scent.

Feyre!

As quickly as I could, I opened the door, almost falling into the entrance hall.

Female, as well as male, voices sounded from the dining room.

Immediately my whole body tensed.

I wasn't good with strangers...

My heavy bones carried me as quickly as possible to the door.

With a single movement I opened it and saw my sisters behind it.

Elain had lowered her head and Nesta looked at me with relief.

As soon as she could Feyre jumped up and embraced her.

Nesta growled behind her twin and I quickly disengaged from Feyre to quiet her.

Just as I was about to sit down a sharp pain shot through my legs.

Immediately Nesta was with me, supporting me.

Feyre also tried to reach for her sister, but Nesta hissed, "Don't touch her!"

Surprised, I raised my eyebrows but said nothing.

Since Feyre had been reborn, Nesta had been even more dismissive.

However, I understood my twin.

Gratefully, I squeezed Nesta's hand weakly and finally looked up at the three men.

One more handsome than the other.

But the one who caught my eye the most, was the man next to my sister.

I looked at him with a disdainful look and felt the air in the room grow smaller.

The two wingmen also tensed.

Disapprovingly, I looked at their interlocked fingers.

"Raven, may I introduce..."

That was as far as Feyre got, before I interrupted her.

"No you may not. What are you doing in my house?"

My voice was sharp and brooked no argument.

A growl from across the table made me lift my tired head.

I looked straight into hazel green eyes.

"Watch how you talk to our High Lord!"

"You are in my house, with my sisters. I decide if I want to keep you here or not!"

A dark wave swept the room and I had to pull myself together not to flinch.

Only my eyebrow twitched.

Nesta beside me grabbed my hand.

I looked reassuringly at Elain, who had made herself small in fear.

Slowly, my fuses were blowing.

The shadows still did not disappear.

"Enough!"

My voice thundered through the room, as did the slap of my hand on the table.

By now I had risen to her feet.

Trembling, I held myself upright.

"Out!"

Feyre stood up too, looking pleadingly at me.

But I allowed no argument.

I loved my youngest sister, but I would not put Elain and Nesta in danger because of a war in another world.

"Raven, please! We need your help!" she pleaded and I saw the man with the purple eyes place a hand on my sister's back.

"Out!" were the only words that came out of my mouth.

"If you don't mind. We really need your help, if not..."

Again I interrupted him.

My voice was hard and unyielding, "Nothing then! I will not put my sisters in danger just because of a war that is taking place in another world! Now get out!"

The one wingman with red stones on his suit looked at me with a loathing look.

The one with blue stones, on the other hand, allowed no emotion to show on his face.

Again my hand trembled and this time it did not go unnoticed.

Feyre, meanwhile, had tears in her eyes and held a hand, also trembling, in my direction.

"Get out! These are my last words!"

My voice sounded unyielding and harsh.

Nesta stood next to me and had latched onto me. I needed her support or else my illness would bring me to my knees, faster than I could click my tongue.

On the other side of me, a trembling Elain.

After two minutes Feyre seemed to give up, for she smiled sadly and then said quietly, "We'll put some guards outside the house."

I just nodded and led my sisters out of the room.

I myself could not have spent another second in that room.
