It's the last chapter for this book. This has been so fun writing. I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I have. Stay tuned for the next book. And there is a surprise twist for the end. I started this book because I couldn't find any other books that had this specific ending. So I wrote one myself.
Anyways, without further ado.
Chapter 26. The ending.
~ the maze ~
~ Alex's POV ~
As we ran through the maze I stayed in the back. Making sure everyone stayed together. Minho was leading them along with Thomas. When we reached the opening, it was already nightfall.
I walked up to the front where Minho, Thomas, Newt, Chuck, and Teresa were. I looked behind the wall and saw a griever guarding the entrance.
"Is it a griever?"
Chuck asked.
"Yeah."
I replied.
"You take this Chuck, and you stay behind me."
Minho said as he handed him the device.
"Teresa, stay with Chuck."
I told her. She nodded as she tied her hair up into a ponytail.
"Once we're through it will activate and the door will open. We stay close and we stick together until we get out of this. We get out now. Or we die trying."
I tried to inspire them. They were all scared. I was scared. But who wouldn't be? We're about to face a killing machine. But hey! At least we'll go out fighting.
"Alright... let's go!"
Thomas yelled.
Gally grabbed my hand and we all ran towards the monster, surprising it. It ran at us, but we held strong. We used our spears as a wall so it couldn't attack us easily. But as it pulled out its stinger and swiped at us we ducked. It used its other claw and grabbed a glader. It flung him over the floor. There was a space between the hallway floor and the wall. So we had to be careful of that.
As it tried to grab Teresa she swung at it. It pulled its leg away and knocked the device from Chuck's hands.
"The key!"
Chuck ran after it.
"Chuck watch the ledge!'
Teresa screamed after him.
As he slid to get the key he almost fell over the ledge. I ran as fast as I could, and caught him right before he fell. I looked past Chuck and saw more grievers coming to attack us. And just as the rest of the boys pushed the original griever over the ledge, two more climbed up. Me and Chuck ran to the rest of the group.
"Tommy!"
I yelled after him.
"Lex!"
"Alex!"
Thomas and Gally yelled after me.
The rest of the boys ran to the other grievers and started to defend themselves. One of the grievers grabbed Minho's leg pulling it from underneath him. Minho fell to the ground and was about to get stung when Gally threw a spear at the grievers face. When it looked up it left Minho and attacked Gally. I ran after it but got swiped off the ledge by the other griever. I held onto the ledge as tight as I could.
As I started to pull myself up something grabbed my arm. I looked up and saw Gally. I sighed in relief as he pulled me all the way up. As we went to help the others, I saw they had gotten the doors up and were at the tunnel. As me and Gally ran, another griever jumped in front of us. It went to grab me but Gally pushed me through its legs onto the ground. I screamed as it grabbed him and dragged him away, down the ledge.
I went to go after him, but someone grabbed me from behind.
"There's nothing you can do for him now. He's gone."
Thomas whispered in my ear.
