destroying the glade

chapter 24

~ the glade ~

~ third person POV ~

They all looked at each other and ran to the opening of the maze. Seconds later they hear the loud razors and clanks of the grievers. It sends shivers down each of their spines. Then more creaking. But not from monsters, from concrete rubbing against concrete. They look around and all three walls open up. Now the glade is completely unprotected.

"Alright chuck, I want you to go to the council hall, and barricade all the doors."
Thomas spoke calmly.

"Winston, go with him."
Alex ordered.

"Get the others, tell them to hide in the forest.. Go hide, now!"
Gally told another glader.

"Minho, I want you to grab every weapon you can find."
Thomas said.

"I know where some are, I'll go with him."
Alex spoke up.

"Be careful."
Stay safe."
Gally and Thomas said to her. She looked at them and gave a reassuring nod. Then she and Minho left.

"Alright, Teresa, me and you are gonna go get Alby. alright?"
Thomas told Teresa.

That's when everything got worse. They heard shouting. Grievers. They were saying that grievers were coming. Thomas stopped dead in his tracks, so did Alex. They looked in the same direction. At the west wall. Dozens of grievers coming in. Everyone ran for cover. Or just somewhere to hide. After Minho and Alex grabbed as many weapons as possible they were pulled down into the box. They went to scream until someone spoke up.

"Hey, it's alright. It's me, it's Gally."

Gally spoke from behind Alex. She turned around and hugged him. But there was no time to be lovey. They needed to protect the glade. And everyone and everything in it. They saw the gate opening and Landon and Billy tried to get in, but they were dragged away by a griever.

"NO! NO! STOP IT! LET ME GO! I CAN SAVE THEM!"

Alex shouted at Gally when he grabbed her. He knew she would die if she went out there. But they did just lose their best friends.

"Please. Let me go. I can save them!"

Alex sobbed into Gally's arm. He comforted her. Everyone in the box was shocked. Alex was crying? They had never seen her cry. They had seen her tear up. But cry? Never. And that scared them. If their leader, their Alpha, was scared and crying, they might as well be dead already. Alex only prayed that her friends and brother would be ok. And she would see them again.

What felt like years, was only minutes of torture. Hearing all their friends screaming and begging for help. But they knew if they went out there, they would share the same fate as the ones screaming and begging. Death. Alex heard Thomas scream though. She broke free of Gally and quickly made her escape. Minho is right behind her. Gally tried to go after her but the rest of the boys in the box held him back.

As Alex and Minho ran to their friends, Newt, Fry, and Winston brought reinforcements. Alex ran to her brother, Minho and Fry launching a spear at the griever attacking their friends. While it was distracted they ran to the council hall where Chuck was.

They stayed as silent as possible. No one moved an inch. And they thought they were safe. Until a griever pushed down the roof. Everyone getting stuck underneath it. When everyone got to a safe spot in the destroyed council hall newt asked

"Is everyone alright?"

"yeah "

"I'm good."

"I guess"

Everyone said.

"Help!"

They all looked down. There was mason. They all tried to grab him but they were too late. A griever snatched him up and took him away. But the griever came back for more. It grabbed chuck.

"Oh hell no!"

Alex screamed as she grabbed onto Chuck's arm, the rest following after her. They were pulling and pulling, when the griever almost stung him with two prongs, but Alby grabs a knife and cuts the grievers arm off. The needles dropped on the ground. They all checked on Chuck and thanked Alby. when another Arm grabs Alby. again they go to save him, when he tells Alex and Thomas

"Alex.... Thomas. Get them out. You can save them."

Then the griever pulled Alby away and killed him. Alex couldn't take it. She had lost almost everyone she's ever cared about. She doesn't even know if Gally is still alive. She runs out of the council hall.

"Alex! Alex! Wait!"
They all shout after her.

That's when they see the damage. Everything was burned, destroyed or both. And no one insight. Then they see two figures coming out of the smoke. One of the Gally and the other... Noah.

Noah launches himself at Alex. and punches her. He goes in for another when he's tackled to the ground by Gally. But Noah's little minions grab Gally off of Noah.

Gally goes to stand next to his girlfriend, when he notices how numb yet pained she looked. He just hugged her. But she pushed him away.

"No! Get off me! I'm fine!"
She yelled.

"Oh you're fine?! Really cause everyone is dead because of you!"
Noah screamed.

"Whoa hey it's not her fault!"
Thomas yelled back.

"Really we heard what Alby said! They were there! They did this to us!"
Noah retorted.

Alex and Thomas looked at each other. Then they looked down and saw Chuck holding the syringes that were going to sting him. They nod to each other and grab them

"Whoa hey. What are you doing?"
Chuck says as he turns around and sees Alex and Thomas holding the siringis.

"Maybe he's right."
Alex spoke.

"We need to remember."
Thomas said.

They both jabbed the syringe into their legs. That's when everything started to fade away. They dropped to the ground and everything became blurry, they saw faces and then saw them talking but everything was muffled. Finally everything turned dark.

That's when they started to remember. Everything.
