Chapter 19

~ THIRD PERSON POV ~

As they dragged the new girl out of the box and into the med-hut, Newt, Minho, Thomas, and Alex followed. As they entered Alex saw Alby tied to the bed on the right. He looked like he was in pain. But as she walked further in they saw the girl sleeping on a bamboo bed against a wall.

"Jeff, what's going on? What's the matter? Why won't she wake up"
Newt asks the med-jack.

"Hey man. I got my job the same way you did."
Jeff redirected.

Newt looked to his right at Thomas and Alex who were both staring at the girl.

"What? Do you two recognize her?"
He spoke in his accent.

"No."

Thomas answered while Alex looked at him with a 'I have never seen this girl in my life. You know that look.

He ignored Alex' look and said

"Really cause she seems to have recognized you."

He mainly said to Thomas. He trusted her more than he trusted the new green-Thomas.

"What about the note?"
Thomas asked. Quickly changing the conversation.

"We'll worry about the note later."
Newt replied.

"I think we should worry about it now."
Alex agreed with Thomas. The note seemed a little more pressing.

"We've got enough to deal with at the moment."
Newt argued back.

"She's right, Newt."
Jeff said.

"If the box isn't coming back up, how long do you think we can last?'
Jeff worried.

"No one said that. Let's not jump to any conclusions. Well just wait till she wakes up and see what she knows. Somebody's gotta have some answers around here."
Newt reassured.

"Ok."
Thomas spoke before walking out.

"Where are you going?"
Newt asked.

"Back into the maze."
He replied shortly.

Minho and Newt share a look before Minho runs after the boy followed by Alex.

"Hey. Hey Thomas."
Minho said, stepping in front of him with Alex.

"What is this with you? You got a death wish now? You just got out, now you want back in?"

"Newts said that no one's ever seen a griever and lived to tell about it right?"
Thomas said.

Minho and Alex shared a look. Thankfully Thomas didn't notice. 'He would have asked too many questions if he knew.' Alex thought to herself.

"Guys now we have one. You're telling me you're not a little bit curious?"
Thomas continued.

"Not really."
"No."
Alex and Minho said at the same time.

Thomas huffed and continued to walk only for Alex to stop him.

"So what's the plan?"
Alex asked. As she put a hand on his shoulder and looked into his eyes and he looked back a flash of memory crossed their minds.

A young boy and girl were standing in the living room. The boy had dark brown hair and hazel eyes, while the girl had dark brown hair and green eyes. As they were playing with their toys a man and a woman walked in. The young boy looked almost identical to the woman while the young girl looked exactly like the man. They seemed to all be related.

As the young children looked at the adults, the young girl popped up off the ground and ran to the man.

"Papa!"
The child exclaimed.

"Alexia! How are you my little flower?"
The father exclaimed as he bent down and embraced her.

The woman walked over to the young boy.

"Hello my sweet prince."
The women hugged the much smaller boy.

As he hugged back he smiled.

"I'm ok. How 'bout you mama?"

"I am wonderful, Thomas. Alex, how's that fever coming along?"

"She feels a lot better."
The older man said as he put the back of his hand against Alex's forehead.

As the memory faded Alex and Thomas came back to reality.

'You guys good?'

Minho asked, confused. They had been staring at each other for a good minute before they blinked and took in a deep breath.

"Lost you there for a second."

"Yeah."
Alex mumbled while she looked at Thomas with brows furrowed.

"I-i guess."
Thomas replied, staring right back at her, matching her confused face.

"Ok then?.... So as Alex was saying. You got a plan, what are you gonna dissect that thing all by yourself?"
Minho tried to ignore the tension. 'Gally's not going to like this.'

"I-i will if I have to."
Thomas stuttered. He tried to ignore the tension as well but he was almost one hundred percent certain that both Alex and himself just shared a memory. 'Are we related?' Thomas questioned in his head. He would ask her about it later. To see if his mind truly was playing tricks or not.

"Have the other runners left yet?"
Thomas asked

"The other runner quit this morning. After Alby got stung, they're not in any hurry to get back out there. Why are you?'
Minho asked Thomas.
