An Old Acquaintance

Start from the beginning

Reindeers are better than people
Sven, don't you think that's true?

Yeah, people will beat you and curse you and cheat you
Every one of them's bad except you

He says this part in a funny voice, and Dustin's giggling

Oh, thanks buddy
But people smell better than reindeers
Sven, don't you think I'm right?

He's back to his normal voice, which is surprisingly really good

That's once again true
For all except you

back to the funny voice again, and Dustin's cheeks are turning red from all the laughing

You got me, let's call it a night

he switches back to his normal voice, then pauses

Good niiiiight

Dustin says trying to make his voice deep

Don't let the frost bite biiiiite

Hiccup finishes and Dustin's clapping his little hands

"That was amusing" I say clapping too

"Thank you very much. I also play for birthdays, weddings, and high school proms" He says jokingly, and we laugh

"Food's ready" We hear Jacob yell as he's setting the burger patties down on one of the tables Stoick brought. After singing Happy Birthday for Dustin, everyone settles down and enjoys the meal

Stoick and Jacob are talking, Hiccup's chatting with my Dad, Dustin's playing around the place, and My Mother and I are talking about stuff.

"So, when can we be expecting grandbabies from you guys? I mean after the wedding of course" My Mother asks casually

"MOM!" I say nearly choking on the burger that I just took a bite from

"What?" she asks innocently

I just look at her and laugh. Me and Hiccup may or may not have done the deed, but we were always safe.....I hope. I shake my head then join Hiccup and my Father.

"....And I said 'At least she looked okay!'" My Father says and they both laugh

"Hey, whatcha guys talking about?" I ask standing next to Hiccup

"Oh I was just tellin' the lad about that time an old hag came up to your Uncle Finn saying that a fine lass would come to his life soon" He says

"Ah, Yeah that one. Uncle Finn's face was priceless when he opened the door and bam! He saw the woman of his dreams" I said

"Well the woman of my dreams is standing right here next to me" Hiccup whispers in my ear and I blush

We talk about random things like the weather, when the wedding will be, where we would live, and so on until Stoick comes up to us

"Sorry to intrude, but Hiccup have you seen Dustin?" He asks urgently

"No, I thought he was with you!" Hiccup says, and I could see the panic starting to form on his face

Hiccup's POV:
Anxiety begins to fill my head as we search for Dustin, and every bad scenario that he could be in swarms my head. I can't think straight

"Where was the last place you saw him Hiccup?" My Dad asks me

"Dustin, Astrid, and I were sitting here, and he asked me to sing him the reindeer song" I lead Dad to where we were sitting earlier and I notice a note on the ground

Dearest Mayor,
I've been watching you guys for a while now, and I must say your youngest son, Dustin, seems like such a precious thing to you. I truly am sorry for the loss of your wife, and please send my congrats to your eldest on his engagement. Now let me cut to the chase. I've taken Dustin with me, if you want him back you must step down as Mayor and announce me as the new Mayor of Berk. I'm giving you a month. If you fail to deliver my one request, today might as well be the last time you'll ever see your son, and I suggest keeping everyone you care about close to you. oh, and if the authorities get involved you may as well say you don't love your children
- An old Acquaintance (you know who I am)

"Dad.....you might wanna see this" I say handing him the letter, and I run my hand through my hair sighing. My Father says nothing for a while before he rushes off to the car without saying a word

I sit on the floor not knowing what to do and Astrid sits next to me

"They'll find him Hiccup. I'm sure of it" she says rubbing my back

"I know, it's just that Dustin's so small, and he's alone out there in this big world" I say feeling a lump in my throat

"He's not alone. Your Mother's watching over him from Valhalla. She's always looking over you guys" She says, and I smile softly at her

"Hiccup, let's go your Father asked me to take you home" Barnaby says quietly and I nod

"Do you want me to stay over tonight?" Astrid asks me as we're walking to their car

"No, I think I just want to be alone tonight Milady" I say, opening the car door for her, and we sit

"That's okay, I understand" she rests her head on my shoulder, and we stay like that until we arrive at my place. I say bye to the Hofferson's and slowly walk to the door. I'm putting the key in the keyhole, when I hear rustling in the bushes. I turn my head around "Who's there?" I say loudly, no response, "I'll call the police" I say, taking a cautious step towards the bushes. The rustling becomes louder, and then something jumps out. I take a step back, and I look down to see a small black labrador with green eyes. "Hey, Bud" I say crouching down to get a better look at the little fella. He looks about six months old, and half of his tail is gone, I'm guessing he got caught somewhere. I take him inside and give him a bath, then I take him to the vet to check for any infections, and to see if he has a chip. No chip, no infections, so I decide to keep him.

"What am I gonna do with you huh bud?" I ask patting his head while driving home. My Father isn't home yet so I sit on the couch with the dog. "What shall we call you bud?" I ask as if he could understand what I'm saying. "Spot? Cole? Nugget?" I call out random names while petting him, and he bites me, "Ah-ow! You're certainly not toothless aren't ya!" I say pulling my hand away from him, and I notice he popped his head up when I said the word toothless so I say it again, "Toothless?" his tongue's sticking out and he's just looking at me "Well, Toothless it is then. Welcome to the Haddock family bud" I say laughing as he licks me all over the face. I hear the door unlock and my Father walks in looking down. "Dad?" I ask standing up and going to him, Toothless follows me

"Not a sign of him. The police are going through camera footage as we speak, and they'll inform me more about it tomorrow. I don't care if this mystery man doesn't want me to contact authorities I will risk anything for my kids" he says plopping himself down on the couch, and I sit next to him

"Dad, they'll find him. Berk Police Force are one of the greatest police forces I know" I assure him

He just looks at me, smiles, and nods. Toothless goes up to him and starts licking his hand "Where did you come from?" He asks and climbs up on the couch keeping a safe distance from Toothless

"Is the great Stoick the Vast scared of one tiny dog?" I raise an eyebrow, surprised

"N-No, and answer the question boy" He says keeping his eye on the dog

"I found him in the bushes, and don't worry I already took him to the vet for all his shots and stuff" I say laughing at the sight of my Father (who's a large man) avoiding the tinyyyy puppy. "Well, goodnight Dad" I say picking Toothless up and carrying him to my room.

I get an old box I kept my stuff in while I was at boarding school, place a spare pillow on the bottom, and toss a blanket on top so it's nice and warm. Toothless curls up in the box and he's snoozing in no time. I change my clothes and head off to bed myself, without a single worry in my head.
