Chapter 14

Mitch sits on the sofa after the boys finally woke and ate breakfast. He didn't want the boys to constatly tell him to eat, it was his decision and he made it very obvious. They're now upstairs recording, leaving Mitch downstairs alone.

That was probably not their smartest idea, Mitch thinks. He leans forward and looks twoards the carpet. Taking steady breaths, he stands up and looks around. The living room is not small, but not massive, either. Mitch doesnt know exactly why he has just figured this out, he's been in the same house for maybe a year and a half.

He walks to the kitchen and opens the medicine cabinet. His bottles of pills sit there untouched for days, he doesnt know what he plans to do with them. Mitch closes his eyes and shuts the cupboard door.

"Hey you look new here!" said a boy around Mitch's age. Mitch moved to New Jersy from Barbados and its his first day or school. He's never seen so many people go to one building, even if it was a small town.

"yeah, I am." Mitch said. He gives a grin to the boy and the boy smiles back.

"Hi, I'm Jerome." he says and extended his arm to Mitch and he shook it. "I'm in the Fourth Grade!" he says proudly and buffs out his chest a little.

Mitch's face brightened. "we're in the same grade!"

Jerome smiled. "Of course we are, you look my age. When's your birthday?"

Both childern were at the entrance of the building. "March 3rd," Mitch said.

"Wow! Thats so cool, mines the 9th. Whats your name? I can help you find your class, by the way."

"Haha thanks. I'm Mitch." Mitch said. Jerome pointed him to the office and helped him learn his way around the corridors of the small, yet cofusing, buindling.

"Looks like we have the same teacher." Jerome said pointing at a name of the peice of paper and showed Mitch. "She's mean if you get on her bad side."

Mitch, then, didn't know how much this boy would ever mean to him, and smiled at the boy. "When's lunch?"

Mitch shakes the memory. He doesn't need to remember Jerome and his's younger years. It'll make him cry and feel guilty. Mitch glances at the table; the boys left a wild mess. Mitch sighs and grabs a wet cloth. He first takes the plates and cups to the sink before he takes the wet cloth and wipe and scrubs the table and countertops.

Its almost May and he doesnt exactly like the idea that Jerome wouldnt be with him for the rest of his life. This makes Mitch spark up tears and he wipes them away vigoursly, he doesnt need to cry right now, the boys could come downstairs and find him crying and that would turn into a disaster.

When the kitchen was up to his expectations, Mitch throws the cloth in the laundry room and walks up the stairs. He gets to his room, the biggest bedroom in the whole house, and takes his phone from the nightstand and sits on the foot of his bed; he scrolls through twitter and this doesnt satisfy his boredom.

"Here, can I try the pogo stick?" Mitch asks. Its about half a year since he's moved and he can tell that jerome and his friends find him rude but he still wants to have friends. Miitch and jerome are both in the fifth grade now.
