Perhaps it was out of habit from high school?
You'd usually show up early and sit against the wall in the math hallway and eat the garbage food they offered as breakfast. You didn't have any classes with your friends so you would spend an hour before school started to talk to them. Talk about each other's interest or how 'one of the boys' were annoying any of you.
Yup, those are some good times when you got to be lazy without consequences and didn't have to worry about dying in a war that has started way before you were brought to existence.
"How the fuck was I even born?" you asked out of nowhere remembering how you just magically appeared inside the walls, "Do I even have parents?"
All of your mumblings caught the blue-eyed girl's attention. She clearly glanced at you but didn't say much of it but it was clear that there was some sort of concern in her.
It wasn't long until the two of you arrived at the dining hall. As always you served your food and ate at the table in silence. Until Reiner and Bert came along with their own breakfast.
Bertolt was looking a little red, just barely noticeable. Next to him was Reiner joking about the position he woke up in today, something along the lines of 'cold'? Or something, you didn't pay much attention.
Or maybe it was something about last night's dinner.
"Oh, by the way. The dinner served last night was incredible, especially-"
"Don't lie, Reiner," Annie had cut him off, "you were crying last night."
The group was silent and it was Reiner's turn to be a little red.
"Weak ass bitch," you mumbled quietly only for Bert to do a spit take.
"That's some strong language, (Y/n)," he muttered nervously while looking down at your form. Which was oddly proudly smiling at the insult you threw at Reiner for being one of the many who didn't handle spice.
You found it funny, pretty much everyone in your year, second years, 104th cadet, kids who have two years of training experience. Kids that consist mainly of 14 years olds or something. Everyone knew it was you, yet they all decided not to say anything. It's all just a matter of time until Shadis decides to you yell at you. Yup.
You were somewhat considered the fool of the class. Some said that you could probably live a nice life inside the walls as the king's fool. Although you aren't too sure if your could handle being dressed as a clown 24/7.
Especially after you learned how to write simple short words like a loser, baby, kick, abortion, me, my, ass, pp, mayo monkey. Along with a bunch of other things. Turns out that writing means things and sticking them onto someone's back is actually fun. Of course, you only ever did this to any guy who was oblivious to your actions. Of course, this excluded a lot of people from your friend group.
Leaning your face on your palms you then asked Annie her opinion on the food, "did you like it?"
"I thought it was good," was all she said before pushing hair out of her face.
Sitting up straight you gasped, "oh my gosh, really?!" At first, you were excited, maybe a little too much. Your once-tall posture is lowered and lean slightly away from her trying to play off the high amount of happiness that filled your body. Even if the compliment wasn't a big one.
"Of course it was good, after all, both Bert and I are geniuses when it comes to food."
You turned to the tall sweaty boy, he too seemed to be happy at the compliment.
Of course who wouldn't be happy to receive a compliment from Anni-one of the two coolest girls-from a cute-Annie ... a compliment from Annie.
