Chapter 2

Bigger deal

This is his first night in this dorm. He's been busy all day arranging his room. Now he's sitting on the sofa while watching his favorite show in his pajama. It wasn't even colorful or had a cartoon character on it, yet he manages to look like a real child now.

I prepared chicken curry for our dinner. I was able to go out a while ago, so I bought some chicken for tonight's dinner.

"Come here. Let's eat." I called him as I place the plates, spoon, and fork on the table.

"You sure can cook," he said while looking at the chicken curry on in front of us after sitting.

I grew up pretty independent. Another thing is I've also been living away from my parents for the last 4 years now, so I really don't have a choice but to learn cooking or else I will starve myself to death otherwise.

"You should have told me sooner. How much is my share?" He asked. I watch him put a spoonful of rice and curry in his mouth.

"Hmmm."... "This is delicious," he said in approval while his mouth was full, smiling, and both cheeks were almost popping.

I just stare at him, half smiling, "Slow down, kid, It's all yours." I told him then handed him a glass of water.

"I'm not a kid," he said, staring at me blankly. I guess he's too afraid to try his luck and glare at me. I just nodded and agreed with him as he looks like someone who doesn't like losing. So let's save the trouble arguing.

"Uhm, Your things... You seem to have way too much with you." I started a conversation. I took another bite before continuing, "You're not a model, are you? " I joked. I actually want to ask if he's ran-away-kid, but I couldn't bring myself to do it, so I decided to at least light up the mood.

He laughed softly, then shook his head. I'm glad it's pretty effective.

"I have a plan being one, but I don't like to end every model's careers, So," he said, riding the joke as he shrugged his shoulder and sounding so proud.

Actually, he could if he wants to. His looks can definitely pass as one. He has this height and body proportion of a model, so what stopping him from doing so? He looks kinda innocent but still can pull different kinds of themes and concepts. Well, with the stylist's help, nothing is impossible.

"I'm actually not from here nor city near here," he said, answering my question just a while ago seems like getting what I really want to ask about.

I just nodded as I glance at him once more, "I won't be able to go home often, so I need to bring what I needed." he added.

"How about weekends?" I asked him, typically, people who rent dorms go home on weekends.

"It's 12 hours drive to get from my home, so I can only go home for long breaks," he replied softly.

I could feel a little sadness from his voice even he tried to covered it up with a bright smile on his face.

That made me feel a little uncomfortable. There are thoughts in me that I hope he can be truthful to what he feels. I'm not going to deny that somehow it gave me a short of relief, that well, at least, he's not a runaway kid, and he can go home anytime he has chances.

"Is your school near here?" I asked him. We actually don't have a chance to really talk a while ago. This is the most extended conversation we shared.

"Uhm, My friend said it's near here..." he paused for a seconds before continuing his words "But I still don't know how near," he added little embarrass. He scratched his head softly, then laughed.
