"What the hell is that?"
Thomas asked.

"We know as much as you."
Alex said matter-of-fact like.

As I continued to look at it I saw the letter W.I.C.K.D on it. The same letters we get on our weekly supply in the box. I also noticed the number seven on it. The same number of the section that was open last night.

"Interesting."
I said.

"Ok whatever it is, can we take this back to the glade? Because I don't want to meet this guy's friends."

Fry said.
"He right. It's getting dark. Let's go."
Alex told us.

As we ran back to the glade Alex stayed at the back to make sure everyone stayed with the group. 'She is totally the mom glader.' I thought to myself.

~ THIRD PERSON POV ~

When the group of six got to the glade they immediately got Newt to call a meeting.

"Yeah we found this. It was inside a griever."
Thomas said as Newt examined it.

"These are the same letters we get on our supplies."

"Yeah. Whoever put us here, obviously made the grievers."
Alex said.

"Wait, you went into the maze?"
Gally asked, hurt, surprised, and angry.

"This is the first real clue we've had in three years."
Alex ignored Gally knowing that she would get an earful later.

"Newt, we gotta go back out there. Who knows where this might lead us."
Thomas said.

Newt looked at the group.

"You see what they're trying to do right? First they break our rules, now they're trying to convince us to abandon them totally. The rules are the only thing that ever held us together. Why now are we questioning that? If Alby was here you know he would agree with me. These shanks need to be punished."
Noah said.

"No. You don't get to use Alby like that. He would consider what Thomas is saying and he would use our knowledge to better the glade. And besides. Newt is not the only one in charge. Remember? I'm the co-leader. I came up first. So I make the decisions."
Alex fired back.

"Really? You? You broke the rules. You should be banished."

Noah took a threatening step closer to her only for Gally to stand in between them. He knew Alex could handle herself but he didn't trust Noah not to play dirty.

"Banished?! Are you kidding me?"

"Yeah you knew the rules longer, hell you made the rules."
Noah said.

"SHUT IT!"

Newt said irritated with the whole situation.

"Ok. Noah is right. You need to be punished. But Alex is not getting banished. One night in the pit, no food."
Newt said as he handed Minho the device back.

Alex knew why she had to get punished. She broke the rules and she knew that if Newt didn't punish her Noah would cause a riot. Though the simple punishment did not settle Noah it only infuriated him.

"Oh come on Newt, one night? You think that's going to stop them from going back out into the maze?"

"No. and we can't just have non-runners running out into the maze..."
Newt said.

"So starting tomorrow, Alex and Thomas are runners."

"Wow."
Noah said.

Gally was dumbstruck. Newt was putting Alex's life in danger. Again. He turned to see Alex's face was full of determination and pride. He grabbed her hand and she looked at him. He looked so worried. She gave him an assuring nod and smile. That seemed to calm him a bit.

Noah stormed out of the meeting but Fry tried to stop him.

"Noah-"
"No Siggy."

Noah knew Fry hated being called that. And from the look on Fry's face that hurt. Unfortunately Alex saw. Fry was her best friend so when she saw how hurt he looked she lunged at Noah. Gally quickly held her back. When Noah looked at Alex's reaction he smirked and looked at Newt because he knew that was punishable, but only to see Newt and everyone else turn around. Noah stormed out again like a five year old knowing they wouldn't punish Alex for that. When he left and Alex had calmed down she looked at Newt.

"Thanks Newt."
"Thanks Newt."
Alex and Thomas said at the same time.

This made them look at each other. Gally noticed and seemed mad. He wrapped his arms around her shoulders from behind and glared at Thomas. The boy seemed to notice and looked away. Alex looked up and shook her head.
