"I hope you are not here for your usual marriage talks " I said to my mum as I dropped her drink on the table.

"I gave up on that a long time ago. If it didn't work then, it surely wouldn't work now" she said as she sipped from her glass while I turned to a seat.

I chuckled as I watched her.

"Then why are you here?" I looked at her suspiciously.

"So I can't come visit you again? Or have we turned to enemies?" She insinuated.

I laughed.

".I didn't mean that. It just feels weird having you here for no reason"

"You are still my child, no matter how grown you think you've become" she said.

"Nice to know that, I was beginning to forget" I joked.

She gave me a "what do you mean" stare and I just laughed.

"How's Oge and Ola and their families?" I asked.

"They are good. Do you even check up on them?" She asked.

"Why not? I do"

She looked away while I concentrated on the TV program.

"When's Nathan getting out?" She asked not looking at me.

"In a year and 6 months" I replied not thinking so much about it.

"How fast time flies" she uttered.

I looked at her waiting to hear more but she said nothing else.

"I'm coming" I shouted going towards the door as someone had just knocked.

"Who's there?' I asked as I opened the door.

"What are you doing here?" I asked him as he stared confused.

"I can't visit you anymore?" He asked.

"You can, but you have to tell me before coming . Don't just badge in on me" I said.

"You sound like there's a man in there" he arched his brow.

I rolled my eyes at him.

"My mum is" I said letting him in.

"It's not a bad idea if you introduce me to her" he shrugged walking behind me.

"Good afternoon ma" he greeted as we walked into the parlour.

"Ah, good afternoon. How are you?" My mum asked as I saw her face brighten up.
She was always over welcoming .

"I'm good and you?" He asked as he sat down.

She replied him.

And before I could introduce him, he did the talking himself.
I never knew Dami to be a talker.

"Amara won't you get your visitor something?" Mum questioned.

I looked at her and then at Dami.

This reminded me of times when she would invite one of her friend's sons to our house and have me act all welcoming towards him, even though it was against my wish.

While I was fixing up something for them, I heard their chatter and laughter from the kitchen.

It was like they've known each other from way back.

"You didn't mention any Dami while you were in high school?" My mum asked surprised as soon as I walked in.

I looked at Dami and I hoped he didn't tell her that we were a thing back then.

"You talk like you knew everybody from my school" I said as I placed the food before them.

They watched me while I did so.

"I wish you would always be around mum" Dami said.

"Why?" I asked , still trying to process that he called her Mum.

He looked at me.
" Because you never threat me this way, she doesn't fix me food when I come over" he said turning to my mum.

I scuffed.

"You both must be close I assume" mum uttered.

"We are not that close" I defended before Dami could say a word.

He chuckled and my mum looked at me.

"I would excuse you two." She said as she went inside.

"I see what you did there?" I commented smiling when she was gone.

"What?"

"Trying to win my mum's heart huh?"

He laughed " not my fault that I'm loveable, and besides if she's the only way I can get to you, then I would go on and on" he said.

"Get to me? What do you mean get to me?" I asked.

"You know what I mean Amara, I like you , but you don't want to give me a chance"

"You are still dwelling on old time fantasy, eat your food joorh" I uttered laughing.

He laughed too as he continued eating.

"Sure you just came to see me?" I asked.

"I called at your workplace but you were not around . I just wanted to know how you are doing"

"You didn't call?"

"You weren't picking up" he said.

"Not to worry, I would be leaving soon " he added smiling at me.

"I never asked you to" I said.

"You don't need to" he smiled as he stood .
I walked him out and that was it.

"So you've been with a man?" came mum's voice as he left .

I looked at her startled "he's just a friend"

"Yeah, I know what just a friend looks like" she smiled.

"But seriously, we are not a thing" I defended.

"I've heard, you don't need to ring the bell on and on" she said taking a seat.

She smiled at intervals  giving me an excited stare.

"Mum!" I laughed

"What, he's a fine man?" She said as she looked away smiling.

I wonder what she was thinking.

Amara's mother has her hope high in the sky after coming across Dami.

I'm sure she believes in a possibility that they would become a pair.

Is Amara willing to make that dream a reality???
