into the maze we go

Thomas looked up and saw a storm was coming. Newt noticed and told everyone to stop working and get to the homestead. Once everyone was there they waited for the rain to pass. Thomas tried to look around for Alex to talk to her, but he couldn't see her anywhere.

"They should be back by now. What happens if they don't make it?"
Thomas said.

"There gonna make it"
Newt reassured.

"What happens if they don't?'
Thomas asked again.

"Their gonna make it."
Newt reassured Thomas.

Once the rain passed everyone waited by the doors. The doors started creaking.

"Can we send someone after them?"
Thomas asked yet another question.

"It's against the rules. Either they make it back or they don't."

Gally said. He just wanted to make sure his friends were safe but he knew if they sent anyone in there more lives would be lost.

As if reading his mind Newt said "We can't risk losing anyone else."

As the doors started to close Minho appeared. But something was wrong. Alby. He was carrying him on his back.

"Come on Minho, you can do it!"
Chuck said. They started to encourage the runner.

"Com on!"
They all shouted.

"You gotta leave him!"
Gally shouted.

Minho started to drag him by his foot.

"They're not going to make it."
Newt said.

Alex was standing in between Galley and Thomas. Out of the corner of her eye she saw Thomas get into a running stance. She knew he was going to run in the maze. She knew she couldn't stop him so she did the next best thing. Which just so happened to be the dumbest thing too. She ran into the maze after him.

They all just stood there. No one knew what to do. They just watched their only leader in the glade and the new greenie run into that nightmare of a place.

Gally was hit the most. He just watched the love of his life run into a death trap. All because of some stupid greenie.

~ IN THE MAZE ~

~ ALEX'S POV ~

When me and Thomas made all the way into the maze he lent over wheezing and coughing. I just tried to steady my breathing. Minho just looked at us in utter disbelief.

"Great. You just killed yourself."
Minho said.

"No I didn't. I've survived before. You know that now come on we need to hide him."

"Don't you get it. That was luck. You got lucky. We're gonna die."

"Wait. you've been in the maze before?'
Thomas asked only to be ignored.

"Minho get your ass up, before I drag both of you around this place."

He stood up knowing I would do exactly as I said I would. Minho grabbed Alby's left arm while Thomas grabbed his right arm, and I directed us to where I knew we could hide Alby.

It had been hours later. It was now dark and we were tying Alby in the ivy. We heard a griever coming.

"We gotta go. We gotta go now!"

"No! No! No! Just a little more, Minho! Come on just a little more!"
Thomas tried to convince him.

"He's right Minho. Just a little bit more."
I tried next.

Minho looked at me and all I saw was pity.

"I'm sorry."

"Wha-"

That's when he ran. He fucking ran. He left us. We struggled to keep Alby up. But we finally got him stable and tied the end of the vine to a sturdy branch.

I found a crack in the wall and hid Thomas first then me there until the griever passed me. I silently prayed it did not see Alby. When I saw its sharp claw-like leg hit the ground, I had to cover my mouth so I wouldn't make a sound. We didn't move. It just stood there for what felt like an eternity. Then it finally did leave.

I sighed in relief and got out from under the wall helping Thomas out as well. I heard the creature coming towards me again so I grabbed Thomas and stood behind the wall. When I didn't hear the clanging of the metal coming any closer but farther, I looked over and didn't see anything. I went to make sure Alby was safe and that's when Thomas stepped in something gooey.

"Ugh."

When something warm and thick dipped on my shoulder I looked up and saw it. The griever was right above us. I yelled for us to start running aimlessly trying to lose it in the maze Thomas hot on my heels.

After about ten minutes of running I bumped into something. I was about to scream when he covered my mouth. I looked up and saw Minho. I sighed and hugged him until we heard the griever again.

"Come on the wall is changing, we can lose it here."
Minho directed.

As we ran towards it I got an idea. I stopped. Minho and Thomas kept running, not noticing that I was still standing till they were past the wall. They turned around and screamed for me to run. I didn't. I waited till I saw the griever running towards me.

"Come on!"
I egged it on.

When it was close enough I ran towards the moving wall and just before it closed the griever ran between it and got squished.

"You are a crazy lady, princess."

"Thanks shuck-face. Now come on we gotta get Alby and go home."

"Can we please go now?"
Thomas panicked.

It had taken us all night to get back to Alby, get him down, and carry him to the Glade.

~ BACK IN THE GLADE ~

~ THIRD PERSON POV ~

Gally woke up first. He waited by the doors all night. He wasn't quite sure when he fell asleep but he did. And it left him with an aching back and heart. When the doors started to open everyone was awake. But no one was on the other side. Gally couldn't believe it. Alex was gone. The love of his life was gone. And it wasn't until Chuck said something that they all turned around and cheered. There they were. Alex, Minho, Thomas, and Alby. Everyone ran towards the doors again and when the four finally reached the glade the med-jacks took Alby, Newt hugged Minho, Chuck patted Thomas on the back, and Gally grabbed Alex. he picked her up and spun her around. When he finally put her down he just hugged her.

"I'm so glad you are ok."

Gally whispered.

"Of course I am. I had to come back. This place would burn to the ground without me."
Alex said back.

They chuckled quietly and broke apart. Everyone came up to Alex asking so many questions when Chuck asked the one question everyone wanted to know.
