in front of you is a cliff, and below is the ocean.

"it's so pretty."

he looks at you and smiles.

vinnie places down the blanket and sits down.

he hold his arm out signaling for you to sit down.

sitting down next him he wraps the other blanket around both of you.

"do you like it?"

"i love it vinnie. i can see why you go here to get your mind off of things. it's so peaceful."

vinnie looks down at you and smiles.

smiling at him back you rest your head on his shoulder.

vinnie then rests his head on yours.

reaching for your hand again, your fingers interlock.

vinnie softly rubs his thumb on the top of your hand.

you both just looked at the ocean in silence.

but it was comfortable silence.

you felt safe.

you turn to vinnie.

"i want to know about you now."

"like what?"

"something you've never told anyone before."

vinnie looks forwards at the ocean.

"i'm terrified of loving people."

he turns to you.

"why?"

"i don't want to allow myself to love someone just for them to be hurt or leave because of my problems."

it takes you a second to find the right words to say.

"when you find someone you love, they won't leave you, ever."

"how do you know that?"

"because vinnie, that's what people do when they love you. no matter how hard it gets, they put their arms around you and love you when you're not so loveable. when you love someone, yes you feel what they feel. when they're sad, you're sad. but when someone is willing to struggle with you, just so that they can build with you, that's love. and it's a beautiful thing."

vinnie doesn't say a word.

all he does is look at you.

as you stare into his eyes, you see them look down at your lips, and back up.

vinnie leans in and kisses you.

you kiss him back at pull away.

you smile at him and he smiles back.
