Samantha had lied to Christopher.
She hadn't lied to him ever since she told him about Santa Claus. Only this lie was much, much darker and more serious.
She wasn't at a teacher-parent conference. Not even close. Instead she was actually meeting a man named Samuel Lynch who she met on an online dating website three months ago.
She couldn't believe that she, Samantha David, a middle-aged woman and mother, joined an online dating website and got into a relationship with an unknown man online. Then again if she wasn't so lonely all the time, none of this would have happened.
Samantha planned to meet Samuel at a hot, new club in Hardin Heights called the Cellar.
As she drove there, worried thoughts traveled through her mind: What if Samuel wasn't the person he claimed to be? What if he was some creepy, perverted geezer?
Samantha tried to calm herself down by mentally assuring her that he was a legit boyfriend and that the two of them would have a great date.
Samantha finally arrived at the Cellar. She managed to find a decent parking spot. After she climbed out of her car, she searched for Samuel.
