Chapter II: History Of New York

*2 hours later*
[6 August 2020, New York Airport]

"*sniff* *sigh* smell that New York air Kai, its not pleasant, but its something different," says Jaden as they get off the plane. "What are you saying, man? We just arrived, and already you acting weird," says Kai. At last, the boys arrived at New York from Chicago to finally begin a new chapter in their lives. The boys go to the help desk after getting lost. They are told that all GenU students should go to Exit 4 to meet a woman. In the distance, by Exit 4, there's a lady calling out for all GenU students. "Calling all GenU students head to Exit 4, I repeat all GenU first year students head for Exit 4". "Dude, that's us. Let's go," says Jaden, "Not gonna lie. I'm so nervous man", says Kai with a tone of worry. Jaden wraps his arm around Kai's neck and says, "Don't be man, why should you be afraid of finally being able to start a path to our dreams, we'll be alright," "Yeah you right", says Kai with a forced smile.

They arrive at the exit gate meeting two people wearing what seems to be GenU badges. "Hello everyone, I'm glad you could make it. For the first year students, my name is Ms. Kimberly Nevera, but you can call me Kim, and the man on my right is Mr. John Henderson, he hates it when you call him just John, "says the Kim as everyone laughs at the awkward joke. "So both of us will be your dorm caretakers for the rest of the year, all the boys will be with Sir Henderson and all the girls with me, we will be leaving shortly as soon as the bus arrives but for now you can all relax in the café or the gift shop, somewhere we can see you. By the way, welcome to GenU." says Ms Kim.

*2 hours later*
"Alright everyone the buses have arrived, everybody grab your luggage and board the bus", says Kim, "Finally we've been waiting for 2 hours", says Brandon, a new friend Kai and Jaden met. "But at least we get to go now than later, finally get to see the actual Genetics Laboratory!" says Kai in excitement. "Oh no, we are not going there today. The tour of the whole campus will take place tomorrow," says Kim. "Mmm, fine, but will we be able to see the history room of the Blacklight Virus that once infected the whole of Manhattan?" asked Kai. Everybody looks at Kai with weird looks. "Yep, all of that will be there, just be patient." answers Kim.

*1 hour later*
"And there it is everybody, the New York Genetics University, the recreation of the former Gentec Research Facility", says Kim, "woooaahhh", says everyone as they gaze in awe at the size and grandeur of the GenU campus. "Now remember all boys follow Sir Henderson to the boys' dorm, and all the girls follow me," Kim announces to everyone.

Finally settled in their dorm rooms Kai can't hold his excitement, "Dude can tomorrow just get here already," says Kai, "I don't understand how are you not tired after that whole trip. I'm so tired, I don't feel like going to tomorrow's tour," says Jaden as he jumps on his bed. "Why, just cause you're lazy to go?" says Kai. "I just don't wanna go man, but I'm forced since I don't wanna look like the fool that gets lost *sigh*, alright man I'm going to check out Brandon, you coming?" asked Jaden, "Nah, I'm just gonna stay here, pick my room and feel the chalet you know, "says Kai, "Alright man," says Jaden as he leaves Kai. "We're finally here. It's so weird we finally got here when I was literally on the verge of failing school, but I can't say I'm not happy I improved," says Kai in his head.

*The Next Day*

[Genetics University History And Research Facility]

"Alright, everybody, it's the moment you've all been waiting for. Welcome to the Genetics University of New York. The tour of the campus will begin soon but first we are going to the History and Research Facility where you will learn the history of Genetics University and its role in the world," said Kim as they all got off the bus. "Ma'am why do we have to learn the history of the school when we already know it," says Kodi. "Ok Kodi tell everyone what you know about the origin of GenU", asked Kim, everyone stares down Kodi waiting for an answer, "Umm, no never mind ma'am, I'm sorry for interrupting you", says Kodi in embarrassment and guilt while everyone laughed at him. "Everyone this is Professer Carlton, he'll be your teacher for the year, I hope you will treat him with the upmost respect", says Mr Henderson, "Good morning Professor", says everyone, "Good morning to you all, I am very excited to be your teacher this year, I hope we'll all be cooperative of each other and help each other, because I don't want to see even one person getting a B and below, understood", says the Professor as they all walk to the classroom. They arrive to class and take their seats getting ready for the history lesson of the university seven years ago and the reason it was first a research lab for the biggest virus outbreaks New York has ever been affected by. "Alright everyone ready?", asks the professor, "Alright let's begin."
The professor opens a PowerPoint presentation showing the history of the Blacklight Virus.

"Hope, Idaho was once a simple place where nearly 100000 people resided, the main activity there were farming which supplied America with some of its great fruits and vegetables. In the year 1969 the military conducted an experiment on all the residents of Hope, with the mission to accomplish human immortality. The military used a virus they made in order to achieve this far-fetched goal, a virus so lethal, yet successful on animal testing, the Blacklight Virus.

Over 80% of the population in Hope turned unsuccessful and residents that took the virus turned into a hord of mindless monsters, who seem to have died but came back to life, as if it wasn't the people that came to life, but the virus. 10 special kids were able to maintain the virus and were used for testing, but while observing why the virus accepts these kids instead of others, 9 of them died leaving one who goes by the name Elizabeth Greene. Elizabeth Green was 12 year old girl who seemed, by the military, to be a groundbreaking discovery who can help them achieve their goal, so with that the military saw no use of the half dead of Hope so they nuked the entire area. They kept Elizabeth for years, constructing experiments to see what does she do or what's in her that makes her the perfect host for the virus, they never found the real reason until 45 years later. A man by the name Alex Mercer, who once worked for GENTEK, conducted a secret investigation against GENTEK with the help of his sister Dana Mercer. These two siblings tried to overthrow the organization but at times came unsuccessful but this time they found something with enough power to succeed with their plans. These two discovered the secrets of the Hope '69 project, a folder that was alleged to have been destroyed, they knew with this file GENTEK will fall once it's released to the public but they find something disturbing. A part in the file speaks of how the Blacklight Virus still lives today and is safely kept in a vault, in GENTEK. As they read through they discover that GENTEK is planning on using it in New York. Alex went to confront GENTEK with the information, but became unsuccessful, he got fired from his job as a scientist at GENTEK and was threatened to death if he never stopped his investigation".

"Sir, is it true that Alex Mercer took the virus from the Hope '69 project and used it to threaten GENTEK only for his own gain or did he do it for a true reason", asked a girl named Liv. The Professor responds, "Yes that is true, Alex managed to go through all security and managed to enter the vault taking the virus with him, he was caught by a special group of military officials called Blackwatch, but then he threw the virus and it immediately entered his body, and then it 'killed' him. A day later Alex wakes up in GENTEK and starts to have abilities which allow him to shapeshift his body into anything he wants, we have never properly seen how he transforms but it is an amazing sight", he shows them pictures on how Alex looks with different forms, there are many forms he can take from turning his arms into a sword, a whip, and there is a picture of him in armor. "We still don't know the real reason why he terrorized the whole of New York", said the Professor, "Wow these are amazing, but where his Alex now?", asked Jaden, "After he killed the man that planned the entire project of releasing the Blacklight Virus all over New York, he was found dead on the military ship, maybe the virus had enough of him and finally killed him", said the Professor. "And that's it for the History Of GenU, thank you everyone for listening and I'll see you all tomorrow for our first class together", said Professor Carlton.

"Alright everyone I hope you enjoyed the tour and the history of Genetics University, please go on ahead and explore the campus, and welcome to GenU", said Kim. "Thank you ma'am", said everyone as they leave to explore the campus. "Dude that was so cool, I never knew viruses can do that to someone, Alex literally turned to a superhero", said Jaden, "He was not a superhero, he was a terrorist, he used the virus for his own aims. Maybe if he did not do what he did the Blacklight Virus would have never been released, maybe New York would have been a more stable city", said Kai. "Hmm maybe anyway forget all that let's go explore, this place is huge", said Jaden in an excited tone as he runs away, "Hey ok wait up!", yelled Kai.
