Chapter I: Acceptance Day

Suspense waits in the Carter home, everyone waiting for an important letter from a prestigious university, Genetics University, to accept the attendance and offer a bursary to their eldest son, Kai. "Where is this mail man, are you sure you wrote the address to our home?" asked Kai to his little sister Maya in suspense and discomfort. "Now just calm down son, we understand that this could be the greatest opportunity you have ever gotten but you gotta calm down" says Alton, father of Kai, "That's right baby, just sit down and relax, who knows maybe you pacing around is the reason the mail man is taking his time", Jenice, Kai's mother, jokingly implies. As everyone else laughs, Kai hears the doorbell. In excitement, he rushes to the door from the kitchen. He opens the door and he is met by his friend Jaden, coming to deliver some good news.

"Good morning everybody," he greets everyone with the most excited tone he can offer, "Hello Jay, what's with the energy? You almost broke my door down," Jenice asks. Kai was disappointed that it wasn't the mailman but was excited about the news Jaden brought everyone. "What's going on man", asks Kai, "Are you serious dude, ok then, what else could make feel me as excited, as happy, having so much joy, then being accepted to GenU!" Everyone gasps in happiness and congratulates him. Kai feels happy but is flooded with a feeling of uncertainty. "Jaden got accepted but not me. What if I don't get accepted? What will happen to me, after all that work," Kai thinks to himself. Jaden sees Kai exiting the house and follows him, "Sup man, what's going on with you, I thought you'd be more excited to go to GenU? "he asks, "I haven't gotten my letter of acceptance, "he says to Jay. As he tells Jaden what he thinks might have happened, a man in a blue mailman suit asks the boys a question, "Hey boys, is one of you Kai? I have a letter from Genetics University that's for him." Kai immediately jumps up and tells the mailman, "Uhh yes, that's me", "Alright he you go, sonny, enjoy your day", the mailman walks on to his next delivery.

Kai and Jaden get in the house and tells everybody that the letter from GenU has arrived. "Well then, what are you waiting for, son, open it," says the father. Kai opens the letter to find some life changing news, "I got accepted to Genetics University and have been granted the bursary!" he yells with joy. "Oh, thank the Lord, I'm so proud of you son", says Jenice with tears of joy pouring down her face. "Congrats, bro, you deserve it," says Maya as Kai hugs her, drowning her in tears. "Hey Jaden, we are going to GenU!" yells Kai. "Why don't you join us for breakfast, Jaden, in order to celebrate both of your acceptance to Genetics University? "asked Jenice, "I would love to, thanks," replies Jade.

*2 weeks later*
[28 August 2020]

Two weeks after getting their acceptance letters to GenU, Kai and Jaden are getting ready to finally head to New York, but no one is ready to let both of them go. "Hey boys, how did you sleep?" asked Alton in a sad tone, "Hey dad, we slept good," replied Kai. "Thank you for allowing me to sleep over sir, my parents say they're on the way," said Jaden. "I see, so how do you feel about finally going to your dream university?" The boys were too distracted from the packing and talking to each other to even answer Kai's father's question. "Ok then, mom told me to tell breakfast will be ready in 10, so u guys should be done packing by now", said Alton, "Ok we'll be right down", Kai and Jaden both said. Alton leaves the boys to continue packing. "Man, I can't believe we going to GenU, sometimes I think I'm dreaming," Kai says to Jaden, as he finishes packing. "I know dude, but I'm sure gonna miss this place, all the memories we have come from here", Jaden says, "Yeah you right man, let's go get breakfast, we leaving in 2 hours remember", Jaden says.

*2 hours later*

They finally arrive at the airport, saying their final goodbyes, "Hope you do amazing at GenU son, we gonna miss you so much," says Jenice in tears. "Son I'm proud of you for getting this far and I know that you are going to do great things at GenU", says Alton, "Thanks mom, thanks dad", says Kai trying to hold back his tears. "Don't miss me too much, ok, big bro," says Maya. "Don't worry, sis, imma make sure I sent a letter every week telling you how much i miss your goofyness." They both laugh and hug before Kai leaves his family and heads towards Jaden. Jaden finishes his goodbyes with his parents as he waits for Kai. They both wave goodbye to their families as they board their flight to New York, Manhattan.
