Upon arriving at the kitchen you began working. Beratholthoth instructed you to cut some potatoes and carrots whilst he worked on something else. It was rather quiet, something that you did not like at the moment. You got along well with the teen, but you didn't talk to him as much as you do with Reiner.
"I'm glad you decided to help me with the kitchen," the tall boy gave you a smile and it seemed genuine. In the past, you would notice that whenever he smiled he had little beads of sweat along with this sad look in his eyes. Yet there would be rare times in which he had a smile like now, he looks happy.
"Hey, it's no problem! I'm always glad to help out," you replied with a cheerful tone. "Although this does give me an opportunity to poke fun at Reiner. All that talks about doing a soldier's job yet there he goes helping others and avoids his duties."
His actions stopped as his head lowered down. "Reiner wasn't always like that." His voice was quiet, almost a whisper. However, you decided to ignore it. You'd rather avoid another long pause of awkward silence.
"Say, where do I put these and what should I do?" You motioned towards the chopped vegetables that were in front of you. He looked around the room before signaling you to pour them into a pot-looking thing. It was rather large, then again they are feeding a lot of people. While dumping them into the pot you can't help but think about how it would probably not pass a health inspection thing. Does not look very sanitary, well not a lot of things here are clean.
Such as all the people. The cleanest person you've seen inside of all of the walls is Levi.
Now I understand why it's so gross.
Can also explain why Bert and Reiner avoid eating it too.
"Once I finish my part we should be set," he turned his attention back to, well, whatever he was doing.
Not wanting to leave the guy alone you placed your attention back into that lil bag full of peppers. With the help of a boring-looking kitchen that was mainly filled with vegetables and little to no salt. It was easy to tell these guys never actually tried spice, maybe it was a little too much for them and was deemed dangerous. Or some poor dude died.
Lifting it up to your face you took a sniff in hopes to confirm it was what you thought it was. And man did you regret it. Covering your mouth with your free hand you tried suppressing your loud coughs. It was like your insides were burning.
Yup, burnt chilies or something.
Whilst squinting your eyes covered in tears you were determined to still give these unseasoned people something new. Even if it kills them.
Taking advantage of the lack of attention he was giving you, you dumped about four burnt-looking chilies into the pot. Surely it won't change the taste of it drastically, after all, it is only four in this giant thing. It will only get a hint of spicey. The rest of the bag was thrown into the trash. As a way to get rid of the evidence.
In case anything bad happens.
With all of that done you walked over to Bearturtle and leaned against the counter to see what he was doing.
"That looks a little fancy, don't you think?" you asked the giant.
He nodded, "it's for the commanders visiting. A special meal just for them, speaking of which." Turning his head towards you he said, "could you go to the pantry and get some meat to prepare."
"Sure, anything else?"
Letting out a soft 'oh' he shook his somewhat dirty hands he went to open a small drawer. Out he pulled a small key. "This should be the right key to get to the pantry, although I don't know where the other one is." He placed the key in your hand.
