Elaine, this could boost your career. Are you sure you want to deny the offer?" Emily, my manager, questioned.

"I guess... um, okay, if it's only for three months. Anyway, can I read the letter myself?" I inquired.

"Sure," Emily replied.

I couldn't believe it; I was going to stay in the palace for three whole months. Emily thought I didn't want to go, but the truth was, I was just not comfortable with all the royalty and formality. If Melissa and Emma were here, they would tell me to be myself.

"Elaine, Elaine, earth to Elaine," Emily interrupted my thoughts as she stretched a letter towards me.

"Oh, sorry," I said, taking the letter from Emily.

Dear Miss Elaine,

The entire royal family extends their greetings, and my daughter, Princess Rose, requests your presence with us for just three months. We sincerely hope you will accept.

His Royal Highness, King Xiang

"Sure, I guess I am leaving today," I said.

"Yes, the royal limo will pick you up at 3, and it's 2:30 now. You have 30 minutes to change into something suitable. I'm sorry I won't be able to come with you, but I'll see you on Wednesday and Thursday at the recording studio for the official shoot of your new song," Emily informed me.

"Thanks," I replied. I needed to change into something nice. I rifled through my wardrobe and settled on a yellow sleeveless jumpsuit to complement my dark complexion.

Beep, beep, beep. The limo honked. I came downstairs, exited my mansion. I was going to miss it. The driver opened the door and drove me to the palace.

"Good afternoon, Miss Elaine," said the driver.

"Good afternoon. Please, just call me Elaine. And you are?" I asked.

"I'm Justin," he replied.

"So, can you tell me about Princess Rose?" I inquired.

"Princess Rose is 12 years old, and she loves your music, especially 'I Like It' by you of course. She has a brother, Li Jun, who's the same age as you, 19, and the next heir to the throne. Anyway, Elaine, here we are," Justin answered.

As I stepped out of the car, I saw a young girl in a Japanese-style dress approaching me, a smile on her face. She ran over and gave me a hug.

"Hi, nice to meet you," she said.

"You must be Rose—"

"You mean Princess Rose," a young man corrected me.

"Jun, stop. I was just going to tell her to call me Rose, not Princess Rose," Rose said.

"Elaine, this is my brother, Li Jun," Rose introduced.

"You mean Prince Li Jun," Jun corrected.

"Let me guess, you're quite fond of your title," I remarked, rolling my eyes. I decided to take a closer look at Jun. He had brown eyes, cute doll-like hair, flawless skin, and rosy lips.

"Done admiring?" Jun smirked. I rolled my eyes, sensing the awkwardness between Rose and her brother.

"So, Rose, would you like to show me around?" I asked. Her face lit up with a smile, but it quickly faded.

"Sorry, I have piano practice. Maybe Jun could do it?" she asked.

"Sure. Anyway, Miss Elaine, come with me," Jun said. There was something about him that didn't sit right with me.

As I walked alongside him, I couldn't help but notice a picture on the wall of him as a baby, which made me giggle.

"Don't you dare, you filthy porcupine," he muttered.

"Filthy porcupine? Just because of my afro hair doesn't give you the right to talk to me like that," I retorted.

"Sweetie, Jun, here you are, and you must be Elaine. I'm Lila, a big fan. But don't you dare touch or hurt me or my property, or you're dead," Lila warned, holding onto Jun's hand. She seemed to be his girlfriend, and I couldn't help but feel sorry for her.

"Trust me, I won't," I replied.

"Arrogant jerk," I muttered to myself. I heard him mumble "baboon," but I didn't care what he thought. As I entered my new room, it looked nice, but instead of making a friend, it seemed I had made an enemy.
