Chapter Two

Lynn stared down at the dreaded pink plus sign, and began to sob. She, high school senior herself, was pregnant. Pregnant! That couldn't be happening, could it? She hadn't hooked up with anyone, had she? She couldn't remember doing anything with anyone.

            Except Jeff Chandler.

She let out a scream, loud and piercing. Why did it have to be him? Anyone but him. He was just a drunk hookup, she already had a boyfriend. An abstinate boyfriend at that, so that only left Jeff within a couple month span. She never liked Jeff, and now she bore his child? Fuck no.

Abortion wasn't an option. She wasn't heartless enough to go through with it, and besides that fact, she was on her own. She didn't have the kind of money. Adoption? Maybe. But, she would need Jeff's signature, and she really didn't want to ever see him again. She didn't hate him, but he had been stupid enough to not be precautioned. IT was his fault she was pregnant.

She closed her eyes and prayed to whatever was listening - whether it be God or any other form of a higher power - that she would be okay.

After she was done, she sighed, picking up the phone. It was time to tell Jeff, wasn't it? And since she couldn't bear to do it in person, and it seemed cruel to do it over text message, and she didn't even want to think about Facebook or Yahoo or AIM, she decided to call him. Of course, a month of avoiding his calls ever since that night would take some time to explain, but Lynn wasn't scared. She would never get scared of Jeff Chandler. He was a joke and a half.

She closed her eyes, remembering his number by heart. Then, with one last flick of her wrist, the phone was ringing. He picked up after two rings, sounding asleep.

            "Hello?"

She bit her lip nervously, "Hey, Jeff. It's Lynn."

His voice seemed to perk up, "Oh, hey Lynn. What's up?"

"Just, at home. Sorry I haven't, uh, answered your calls over the past month. I was wicked busy with school and stuff."

He chuckled hoarsly, "It's fine, Lynn. Really."

She giggled lightly too, almost mimicking Jeff. She was really nervous. "Yeah. So, listen, about that night..."

"You don't have to tell me, Lynn. I get it. You don't want to be more than friends, and that's completely okay with me. I got to live my fantasy for one night, no matter how much I wish it was the latter. It's totally good."

"Jeff..." She tried to put the news into the right words, "Look, I won't beat around the bush. I'm not calling about your stupid crush on me. I'm calling because I'm pregnant."

He let out a long breath of air. It wasn't his. He used protection...didn't he? In his drunken haze, he didn't remember. "Yeah, so?" He asked, waiting for confirmation. Sure, enough, he got it a second later.

"Jeffrey, I'm Pregnant. And it's yours." He let the phone drop out of his hand. What had he gotten himself into? That was why he never got that sloshed. But, being Jeff, he did, stupidly.

He tried to make his voice sound secure and stong, not showing how angry and sad he was about all that. "What are we going to do about it then, Lynn?"

She sobbed, "I think it's best not to have contact. I talked to my grandmother, and she agreed. This will possibly be the last time we talk."

"Why are you doing this to me?" He asked, in disbelief of what he had just heard. His baby, though unborn, was his nonetheless, and she was stealing that away from him. That wasn't right; none of this was right.

Her voice broke, "To you? I'm just trying to do what's best for me! I'll have someone notify you when the baby's born."

            "Carolynn, don't do this."

She sighed, "Fucking watch me." And then the line went dead.
