Once upon a time long ago
A monkey lived on a tree,
Which was near a huge lake
Extremely large to be called a sea.
In that vast lake lived
A crocodile friendly and sweet,
He talked to the monkey every day
While the monkey gave him some fruits to eat.
The friendship grew stronger
When the crocodile spent his days,
With his friend monkey on the tree
The whole day they used to play.
But one day the crocodile brought
Some fruits from the tree to his place,
His wife was delighted to have them
He could tell this by her face.
But then she inquired about the fruit
And the monkey she asked about,
Her reaction was unbelievable
She was thinking evil, no doubt.
She demanded the monkey's heart
But the crocodile refused,
"What a heart he must have?" She said,
The crocodile was so confused.
The dilemma was serious
But he had to choose one side,
He went to the monkey and
"Will you visit my place?" He cried.
"My wife wants to thank you
For the fruits you always send,
She told me for a feast I should
Probably invite my best friend."
"Oh! I will surely join the feast
Tell me where do you stay?"
"In the middle of the lake my friend
I'll give you a lift if you say."
On their way the crocodile
Told the truth to the monkey,
"My wife wants to taste your heart
That's why I lied, you see."
"Oh! If you had told me I would
Have brought my heart with me."
I thought it would be of no use
So I left it on the tree."
They turned back to the tree
To bring the monkey's heart,
But when the monkey climbed up
Their friendship broke apart
The monkey didn't come back
"You are not a worthy friend,
Go have the feast with your evil wife."
To their friendship, this happened.
This way the stupid crocodile
Lost the friendship of the monkey,
And gave the lesson to us that
With friends truthful, we should be.
