Katherine Pulitzer, or Plumber as she preferred, had received a letter but regardless of it she would have known of the scholarship.
She knew of the boarding school her father was running and she sensed an ulterior motive.
She suspected her father giving her the scholarship was a way to one-up her mother. That was all he ever tried to do. He claimed to be doing what was best for Katherine when in reality, he was only doing what was best for his personal image.
Her parents had divorced when she was in her early teens, and even after living with her father for a while she decided she preferred her mother's home.
After the divorce, her mother had gone back to using her maiden name, Plumber, and Katherine preferred using this name but due to laws and all that boring stuff no one truly cares about she was stuck with her fathers name, Pulitzer.
