In 2019 (or is it...?)

*In 2019*

Harry Potter sat on his couch at home, files spread out in front of him on the table.  He continued to sift through the papers, occasionally setting one aside.  The clock read 1:28 AM when he suddenly shoved the papers away from him, got up rather aggressively, and kicked the stone fireplace.

It didn't help at all, so he flopped back onto the couch and covered his face with his hands.

His wife was asleep upstairs, and as far as he knew, his other friends were fast asleep as well, while he sat looking through previous records of accidental time travel.

What he didn't know was that he was not the only one of his friends awake.  Hermione Weasley also sat up, sitting at her desk in her home office, studying a small, broken, time-turner.  Occasionally, she would poke it with her wand, muttering words underneath her breath, but they either didn't work at all or had a minimal effect.

Growing frustrated, she walked downstairs and into the living room, just as a wide awake and haggard-looking Harry walked out of the fireplace.  He looked at her in surprise, before smiling and joining her in the kitchen for a quick cup of coffee.  They talked as they drank, heading upstairs to Hermione's office.

"Have you had any progress?"  asked Harry.

"Not so far.  I am on my way, but it's slow and definitely not going to be ready by the time the Hogwarts term starts," replied Hermione.

They sat down at the desk with a sigh, and then simply stared at the harmless-looking necklace.

Harry, being Harry, reached out to touch it, before Hermione caught his hand and looked at him disapprovingly.  He simply smiled at her, and then made a small jerk toward the table, just a bluff, but didn't count on Hermione reacting as she did.  She jumped forward slightly to try and stop him but hit her arm against the desk.  The time-turner tipped and slipped towards them until it came to rest against Hermione's hand.  She still was holding Harry's wrist, and they stared at each other in horror as the room began to spin, and suddenly they were dumped onto a dusty floor.  Scarcely had they had time to realize what had happened before they were deafened by the sound of a woman screaming.

Shutting it up with a Silencing Charm they looked at each other in horror, especially when younger versions of themselves walked into the room.

"Who are you?"

a/n Yep, wasn't planning on this at all... But whatever, plans always go wrong, this took a turn even I was not expecting.  This story does seem to have a mind of its own...
