"You're not helping yourself," the Maid of honour seethed, taking a deep breath in and cursing herself for stepping away from the party at all. If she'd stayed in the venue, this wouldn't have had the chance to happen.
"Go home, Namjoon," the order came in a sudden calm voice that there was no chance of arguing with, "I'll tell the members you weren't feeling well."
"What about me?" Hana questioned timidly, tears pooling rapidly with each new blow of reality.
"You're going to go back in there and dance; at eleven you're going to get in a car and go on your honeymoon. This never happened."
Nodding, Hana retreated to the bathroom to dry her tears, leaving Joon alone to suffer Mimie's wrath, but she was beyond words. Although she wasn't sure how, Mimie managed to maintain the heart-wrenching eye contact, silently scolding Namjoon. He hadn't just let himself down, he'd let Mimie down too. It had been a long time since she'd believed him a perfect human, but she still had seen him as the best of people... This tore that belief apart, ripped it out at the root and threw it into the growing fire of cynicism in her heart. He'd become the world he had once been determined to protect her from.
Opening his mouth, he tried again to defend himself, feeling required to do so for the sake of his sanity, but Mimie's eyes closed and her head turned away, ending the excuse before it even began. Relenting in his defence, Namjoon did as told, turning and immediately leaving the building. She didn't trust him though and followed him outside.
The air felt different on this end of the building, the chill was harsher on her bare skin, there was nothing soothing about this atmosphere, standing in stiff silence. She folded her arms across her body defensively, partly to protect from the wind, partly because she felt her heart might burst out of her chest with anger if she didn't.
"You don't need to wait," Joon sighed, seeing her goosebumps from the two metres distance she maintained.
"I want to see you into the car," Mimie insisted, eyes keeping focused ahead of her.
"You don't need to act like I'm a dog requiring control."
"Considering the position I just found you in with a bride, on her wedding day, I really don't think you're in any sort of position to make that call." She sassed; Joon could only allow his shoulders to droop further in response. He'd ruined everything and he knew it.
Even after the car drove him away, Mimie was unable to bring herself to step back into the building. How was she supposed to look anyone in the eye after what she'd seen? The choice wasn't hers to make though. She'd committed to being the maid of honour and she would be needed to organise the guests for the bride and groom's goodbye. Plus she needed to let the members know that Joon had left. The night was far from over for her, so she ran a hand through her hair in a vain attempt to clear her busy mind, and headed back to the party.
