"So what made you think she knows something?" I asked Jorge, not sure of what I had missed while I was with the guy. He looked around before turning back to me.
"She was talking while she was getting food ready for us. Something about her husband being on of the men who died when WCKD's city got destroyed. She said she and her son fled here when he died in the building. I think he was a guard or something," he explained and leaned back into the chair he was in. I noticed Thomas, Gally, and Minho exchange a glance.
"You boys know something?" I questioned. They looked a little tense, some form of guilt or nerves on their faces.
"Let's just say that a lot had to be done to get Minho back," Gally said, clasping his hands together and pursing his lips. This definitely meant that there's a possibility one of them killed her husband. Nice.

I sat and ate my bread and pastries after washing my hands. I split my bread in half and shared with Gally. That boy can eat. About an hour had passed by since the mother and her son fell asleep from the serum.
"Well I feel refreshed," the woman came back in with a smile on her face. "Where's Peter? Is he awake yet?" she asked, looking around.
"Actually I was about to check on him right now," I kind of offered, getting up and walking towards the stairs.
"Well here," she handed me a key, "you'll need this to unlock the restraints." She said it quietly as if she were embarrassed for the others to hear. I gave her an understanding nod and walked up the staircase once again.

I slowly opened the door but before I could even step in, I heard him say: "Please tell me you're hear to get me out of these things."
He sounded healthier already and a smile spread across my face.
"Actually that's exactly what I'm here for," I responded, holding up the key. He let out a sigh of relief. I walked over to the bed and started unlocking each restraint. Staring with his wrists, then his waist, and then his ankles. He rubbed each spot in relief. "She really had you locked up, huh?"
He gave a chuckle and a nod. "You have no idea," he joked, followed by a stretch. "This feels so much better." I heard his joints make a popping noise as he stretched all of them. He stood up from his bed and his knees gave in. He grabbed onto the side table for support, but I also instinctively grabbed him before he hit the ground.

"It's been a while," he mentioned lightheartedly, embarrassed about almost falling. God knows how long he's been stuck in that bed without being able to walk. I held onto him, wanting to help him get steady first. He chuckled a little and looked at me. I looked back and our eyes met. He smiled softly, his lips parting slightly.

"I'm in love with someone," I blurted out, remembering the Cameron situation that happened last time I was away from Newt. He started laughing.
"Over-share much?" he joked, still laughing, "I was just gonna ask if you could help me sit down and we could just try this whole walking thing again." I blushed from embarrassment and nodded, helping him back onto the bed.
"Don't be embarrassed. He's lucky to have you. Which one is he?"
"The one that's not here. The one we're looking for," I said, I bit my lip and looked down to fight back tears.
"I'm... so sorry. If there's any way I can help, trust me I will. You saved my life. I owe it to you to help save his," he sounded determined. I don't like using people or asking for favors but if there's any way this guy could help I'd take it.

I just gave him a nod before helping him back up off of the bed. This time he could hold himself up. He started walking slowly, scared that he'd drop himself. I just watched from the side. His balance was good and he was getting the hang of it. He finally got to the door.
"By the way, Y/N," he turned around and looked at me with a playful smirk, "I'm more into guys."
I was a little surprised, but gave a nod. "Good to know," I chuckled. He smiled at me and started for the stairs, which I quickly ran to help him down.

As soon as his mother saw him, she burst into tears. She hugged him tightly and cried happily into his shoulder. These were the sweet moments that made this whole thing worth it. When they broke away she quickly wiped her eyes and turned back to us.
"So what do you want to know?" she asked, pulling up a chair and sitting down, ready to have a conversation full of questions.

The woman had explained to us how her husband worked for WCKD. I learned that her name was Paula. She said that he'd come every day and tell them what they were doing there. And she said that when things became too much, she no longer agreed with what WCKD was doing and left the city with her son. That's when they sought refuge here and started the bakery. She also confirmed our suspicions that Ava Paige had a son, though she said she wasn't sure if he lived through the attack on WCKD.

"I'm glad that city burned to the ground. Serves them right for what they did to those kids," Paula said, crossing her arms and leaning back into her chair. A couple of the guys let out small huffs in response. Kind of as a way of saying 'yeah imagine how we feel' without actually saying it. It was silent for a minute, everyone lost in their own thoughts. Then Peter spoke up.
"Mom, I think I should go with them. They need to find their friends. I want to help. They saved my life, now I owe my life to them."
