「 none of your business 」

"I don't know." She did. "I'm just assuming but you won't know until you tell him." Mary reasoned, just wanting to get in the bath.

"No. You're right. Best to get this over and done with." Lily sucked in a breath, nodding to herself in the mirror before exiting the bathroom. It could go one of two ways; Jack could nod and move on like he wants to or he would freak out and sever ties with Remus.

"Shit." Mary muttered to herself before grabbing a pair of clothes and quickly changing so she could follow Lily in case things exploded. All she wanted was to relax in the bath.

"Out of my way, Potter!" Mary overhead Lily protest, steaming in fury. This was not going to end well at all.

"Potter? Seriously." He retorted, clearly confused by the girl who had returned to her old ways. The bespectacled boy looked over to Mary, looking for assistance but earned a shrug in response.

"I don't have time for this." Lily rolled her eyes, barging past him and Peter.

"Is it me or is she acting differently?" Peter asked as he picked up his books that she had caused him to drop.

"Pointing out the obvious, Pete." Mary shot back sarcastically, hurrying past the two before the redhead engulfed the castle in flames.

"Wait, what's going on?" James snapped out of his mini trance, a face full of concern.

"She's going to break up with Jack." Mary whisper-shouted as the common room door swung open. His mouth formed an 'O' in realisation as the boy hurried after the Gryffindor beater, leaving Peter on his own.

"So, you're breaking up with me?" Jack gathered what she was trying to say and repeated her wording in the bluntest way possible. The girl fought the urge to roll her eyes as she observed him carefully. He was clearly calculating a plan in his head. For what - she didn't know. Instead of answering, she nodded her head as she wrapped her arms around herself when a cool breeze swept through the bridge. "That's why you've been dodging me, isn't it?" He quizzed, running a harsh hand through his hair. A look of panic residing on his usually calm features.

"I don't think that's very fair. You have been cancelling plans and running off with your friends for the past month." Lily countered, earning a chuckle from the boy. That's how he wanted to play. She wasn't going to let him walk all over her.

"This is my fault?" He questioned condescendingly as he shot her an amused look. Usually, she would be stumbling out an apology but this time a shot of wrath churned around her body. No. She was not getting the blame for his incompetence.

"Yes." The girl answered as she raised her hand to itch the skin on her chest. It was rather hot and irritable which only caused her more distress.

"Why didn't you tell me you felt this way? We could sort this out. You know I care about you." Jack said, moving closer to her so he could place a gentle arm on her upper hand. The redhead instantly swatted that hand away.

"How do you expect me to stay and talk about how I feel when you haven't given a fuck about me since we hooked up!" She snapped at him, causing the boy to gulp. The worst venom was that of the truth. But that didn't seem like her intent, her intent seemed devilish as she tried to dig the blade in deep.

"Just talk to me! It doesn't have to end like this." He tried to reason with her, not backing down so easily.

"Why?" Was her only question.

"Why not?" Jack responded, a pleading look in his eye.

But as footsteps grew louder, the boy became distracted and he turned towards the end of the bridge. There stood Mary and James trying to hide and everything clicked in his mind.
