As the song continues, Liam takes over Louis’ solo, which no longer surprises Niall:

Niall begins singing softly for his own solo, a grin spreading across his face as the words pass through his lips:

Liam joins once again, but this time without the other lads, so that he and Niall sing Zayn’s solo together:

As the song comes to an end, the crowd is shockingly quiet. Everyone is left speechless when they see that the space between Niall and Liam is no longer existent, the latter having wrapped his arms around the former’s waist and pulled him close.
Ellen rushes onto the stage, having recognized the signal that Liam had told her about before the show. She slips between Harry and Zayn, ignoring the fact that Louis is holding Harry’s hand from his other side. She puts an arm around each of the other boys’ shoulders after they pull apart, all three of them smiling out at the still-silent crowd.
“So, do either of you have anything you want to say before the show is over?” Ellen inquires. She winks at Liam and smirks at Niall as she waits for one of them to speak up.
“I didn’t know they had changed our final song,” Niall confesses, “so I’m just bloody confused at the moment.” At this, the people in the crowd seem to break out of the trance, and they all laugh. “Seriously,” Niall emphasizes, “I have no idea what is happening right now.”
“I think I can explain,” Liam pipes up.
Niall turns to face the speaker, raising an eyebrow at him. “You planned this,” he states, not bothering to make it a question.
“I had some help,” Liam corrects. “Louis, Harry, Zayn, and Ellen all aided me in this,” he adds.
“You knew?” the blonde boy queries, looking at each of Liam’s helpers. He sees a familiar guilty look on every face aside from Ellen’s (who continues to smirk).
“Anyways, I thought it might be about time to tell our fans the truth, and what better way to do that than through that song on this show?” the Wolverhampton native continues to explain, capturing the Mullingar boy’s attention with his words.
“Does anyone here have any ideas about what this truth might be?” Ellen cuts in. The crowd replies by screaming one word: Niam.
“As I was saying,” Liam speaks up again, raising his voice to be heard over the screams. Everyone quiets down as they wait for him to either confirm or dismiss this possibility. “I thought it might be time for our fans to know the truth. Do you think we should tell them, Niall?”
The blonde-haired boy’s eyes widen as he finally realizes what Liam is trying to do. His expression quickly changes from one of surprise to one of pure joy. He chuckles and nods before saying, “Maybe it would be easier to show them,” with a not-so-subtle wink.
The show’s hostess barely has time to back up to where the rest of the band is standing before Niall literally jumps into Liam’s arms. The Irishman’s legs lock around the Englishman’s waist, and his arms snake around the Englishman’s neck. As his hands make their way into his boyfriend’s messy blonde hair, Liam wraps his arms around Niall.
In the blink of an eye, the couple of two years are joined at the mouth in front of thousands of their fans. The only thought in either boy’s mind, aside from how much he loved the other, is how glad they are that they had been using handheld microphones instead of headsets for today’s show.
Soon enough, the vast majority of the people on the set are cheering and catcalling. As soon as the couple pulls apart, Harry, Louis, and Zayn walk forward and hug them. All of the boys’ eyes begin to water when they see how supportive their fans are of the now−public couple, but they compose themselves when Ellen rejoins them.
“Thank you so much for coming,” the hostess says to the band, hugging each of them. She saves Niall and Liam for last, hugging them both while adding, “And congratulations, Niam.”
