"Thanks for this talk sesh," I say once I've swallowed a bite of a strawberry.

"What's a 'sesh?'" Knox asks in Elvish, and even though I can tell he's being sarcastic, I start laughing, and Knox joins me. As a grin splits my face, I feel more carefree than I have in a while. Now that I'm thinking more about it, today has been the most relaxing, fun day I've had in probably a month or two. Which is crazy to think of. I definitely needed this. A day to blow away the cobwebs and walk around with an 'idgaf' attitude.

The crackling of the fire and the low buzz of conversations fill my ears as I come back from my thoughts, my stomach hurting from laughter. I blow out a long breath, my laughter slowing, and the feeling of how full I am setting in. I stick my tongue out and sink down in my chair.

"Eugh, I should not have eaten all that food."

Knox laughs, shaking his head and looking at me, a small smile on his face. I feel my stomach flutter. Even just a look? Yep, I guess so. UGH.

A hooting laughter sounds from downstairs, reaching our floor.

"Can elves get drunk?" I ask, thinking of the elves at the bar. I chuckle to myself as a loud yell sounds from below us.

"Oh, definitely," Knox says, knitting his eyebrows and looking to the stairs, where light from lower levels shines up onto the wall. "It just takes a lot more than it would for a human."

"Fun."

"I'm guessing no dessert?" Knox asks rhetorically, and as much as I want to eat a big chocolate cake, or whatever elven desserts are here, I shake my head.

"So we should head back now?"

"Probably. We should get some good rest before tomorrow..."

"Ok. So tomorrow we are going to Earth to get the Heartstone, which probably but not absolutely is at my school. And Cin may or may not be there to attack us."

Knox looks like he's about to contradict me, probably on the Cin part, but in the end he just stands and nods. I take a breath, absorb the information, then let it out. Now that I've said it simply, I can go along with my day fine. Sure, I'll probably feel the anxiety tomorrow once we've hit the road, but I'm actually good. I'll be with Knox, anyway, and I'm happy with that.

Knox and I walk side by side down the stairs and outside, where it's now completely dark, the paths lit by lanterns on poles. They remind me of Narnia, it's cute. Snow sparkles in the orange glow of the lanterns, and a sharp yet refreshing breeze sweeps smoothly past us.

The tips of my pointy ears chill in the night.

The next morning goes by in a blur, like my mind can't catch up with what's happening. I woke up at 6, not because I wanted to but because I was too nervous to go back asleep. I ate a quick breakfast with Flint, Hal, and El and said goodbye, more like see you soon- because I will- after we ate. They all had things to do that day, to prepare for the war. I told them I'd see them in a few days. I will see them in a few days. Then I head to my room to change, and Knox goes to change in his.

My outfit is simple, a pair of mom jeans, a black long sleeve and a plain hoodie with black converse. I knew Knox wouldn't like jeans, since they aren't good for fighting in, so when I was choosing his outfit a few days ago I tried to think of my pintrest boards. I want us to blend in, but let's be honest, I want to see what Knox would look like dressed as one of those hot wattpad or tik tok boys. So I go with cream colored pants, a light, sage green hoodie over a white t-shirt, a jean jacket over that, and white converse. Oh, and a few necklaces and rings because... Guys with rings. No no no, I was not treating this situation as an excuse to pick my dream-Earth-boy outfit...
