wouldn't you say, jack? - chapter 34

'Jack, Klaus is right. Finn's body disappeared from the morgue, which means that he's either powerful enough to heal from that explosion, or Freya's powerful enough to save him. Either way, we're not finding them unless we... send our best people out there.'

'Thank you, Hayley.' Astrid hummed with her eyes still latched onto Jack like a vice. Hayley had moments throughout her time with the Mikaelsons where she realised why Nik and Astrid were such a perfect pair and this was one of them. The way they both stared holes into her new husband almost scared her, their faces looking identical and clouded with rage.

'I'm sure you and all your merry men will find them post haste.' Nik smiled patronisingly and Astrid didn't break - she heard Jackson's heart begin to race. 'Just to be clear, I'm giving this order because Hayley is asking.' He still insisted on keeping some kind of dominance and Astrid laughed, 'Yes yes, Jack. You do what your wife tells you. There's a good boy.'

He was taken aback by that comment, never hearing her speak like that before but understanding why - he felt the same protectiveness over Hayley. He looked away and grabbed his bag before walking out, mumbling under his breath.

'Don't think for one second that I take orders from you.'

Marcel's Loft.

'You haven't spoken a word for thirty minutes.' Marcel looked down at his watch before looking at Rebekah who was sat on the sofa, not wanting to attack the current situation. When Rebekah stayed silent, he sighed and looked down at his watch again, 'Thirty-one.'

When Rebekah didn't answer still, he huffed and stood up, 'Fine. I'll answer for you-- "Thank you for rescuing me, Marcel. It's so good of you to still care... even though no one told you I was back." '

'I asked them not to.' Rebekah spoke quietly, not being able to make eye contact with him and he sat next to her, 'There she is.'

'Why?' He asked when she seemingly didn't have anything else to say and she sat rigid, facing directly forward, 'It's complicated.'

'You think?' He tried to calm her down with a more relaxed tone and she didn't take to it, she only answered with a question. 'How did you find me, anyway?'

Mikaelson Compound.

'Listen, Astrid.' Hayley came into the art room to see her daughter's stepmother in a daze in front of an easel. Dots of crimson splattered her face like they were foreshadowing what was to come and Nik watched her from a chair with bourbon in his hand, gripping the glass tightly.

Hayley looked at her child's father worried and he only shrugged which didn't help her comfort. 'I'm not going to kill you, Hayley. Relax.' Astrid smiled but kept her back turned to her, concentrating still. 'I just wanted to apologise for Jack's temper. I know that it wasn't needed.' Hayley twiddled her thumbs and looked down at the floor. 'You don't need to apologise for anything.' Astrid turned to her with her arms crossed and smirking.

'He was being stroppy. He just doesn't like the status quo and frankly his mother would've put him in his place too. Mrs. Kenner was a lot more tamed then Mrs. Labonair I can assure you that.'

Hayley smiled at her words, 'Thanks for understanding.'

'Well isn't this adorable.' Nik hummed from his seat and the two looked over, Astrid flipped him off and he blew a kiss in her direction. Hayley laughed and went to sit down on top of the chest of draws filled with canvases behind Astrid and asked, 'And can someone fill me in on who this Sebastian guy is? I don't mind getting my hands dirty.'

Just as Astrid was about to tell her tale, her phone rang. 'Elijah? What's wrong?'

The noble brother had just left Marcel's loft after hearing about the attack on his little sister and figured that whilst he waited for Marcel and Rebekah to find their own answers, he could find his own from his knowledgeable sister in law.
