North Carolina, here we come...back

Y/N POV

Security Checks were slow, as per usual. I couldn't care though, people wanna get away since school is done now. It doesn't matter though, now we're on the plane, ready to take off.

I reached into my bag and grabbed my laptop, figured I could get some writing done while I'm up here. The laptop was at full charge when I opened it because I made sure to charge it last night for the flight.

I open Docs and start working on the short story I'd been writing for school. I honestly don't even think of it as schoolwork, creative writing is what I do for fun.

The plane ride is like 4 hours, so I should probably get through a few pages before I decide to go to sleep. Key word there is 'should'. I should work on this project, but I'm also really tired and we aren't doing anything later tonight since our plane arrives late afternoon.

Screw it, i'll take my chances. Anything for some at the least okay sleep.

I'm woken up by my brother shaking my shoulder roughly. I crack my eyes open slightly in attempts to hide the fact I'm awake, but Lucas knows me too well. As soon as he saw the slightest hint of my eyes opening, he gave my arm one last push.

"Come on dude, the plane is gonna land soon, you've gotta get up." Luke whispers to me, I'm assuming because he doesn't want to bother the other passengers.

"Okay, Okay, I'm up." I mumble, sleep still heavy in my words.

I swat his hand away from my shoulder before he can get any ideas and start shaking me again. Cuz I know him as well as he knows me, he will.

I sit upright and start gathering my things and putting them into my backpack. Laptop and my phone charger. That's all I really took out, so that's all I have to make sure goes back in.

I put my tray up because apparently Luke thought it'd be funny to try and trap me in my seat incase I had to use the bathroom. Jackass.

"Hey, when is the plane supposed to land" I leaned over to ask Luke, once again being cautious of the other passengers.

"The Flight Attendant said like 10 minutes right before you woke up, so not too long."

"Alright. I'm excited to see everyone again. We haven't been back in like what? 6, 7 years?"

"Yeah, I'm exited too. Do you think James will still be there?"

"Maybe. Actually with his grades, probably." I laughed. It was obviously a joke, I loved all my brother's friends, so the bullying was all in good fun. "I'm really just hoping Sammy's there, at least. She was the best."

"Yo, don't do my boy James like that." He laughed back, knowing I was joking. "But Sammy should be there, and if she's anything like you, she's excited to see you too."

I took a deep breath in to calm myself down. The idea of seeing my childhood friends after all this time made a weird mix of nervousness and excitement bubble up inside me, and it made feel sick. I mean, I left Freshman year of high school and now I'm almost done college; That's a lot of time to change people.

The Flight Attendant got back on the speaker as the plane landed, saying we'd be allowed to get off in about 3 minutes.

I slumped back into my seat like a rag doll at the announcement. Just a few more minutes, then I'd (hopefully) be seeing the same people I left 6 years ago.

As I said, Lucas has been the closest person to me since birth, so he could tell I was distraught. He grabbed my hand and squeezed softly, which almost immediately calmed me down.

I smiled at Luke and nodded softly, letting him know I was okay. He let go of my hand and went back to making sure all his stuff was together.

I grabbed my backpack and swung it over my shoulders haphazardly. I slipped my phone from my pocket to check for anything important now that we were on the ground, but nothing was really happening in the world.

People finally started getting off, and after the first big wave of people had passed by, we finally started moving. First my mom, then Lucas, and then me. (I elected to take the window seat since I knew I would be asleep)

I hummed to myself quietly as we walked to baggage claim and waited for our individual luggages to pass by. Luke got his bag first which was kinda stupid.

Once we all got our bags, my mom called us an Uber to get to the house. I looked around, this airport doesn't look very different from the day we left for New York. I guess they haven't done any renovations since we left.

My head darted back to my mom as her phone dinged with the notification from Uber that our ride was here. We wheeled our bags out to the car and got it all loaded up.

Once we got in the car, I dug into my backpack to get my headphones. I put them on and started listening to music while once again idly staring out the window.

I felt a million different thoughts whirring around in my head, but one of them stuck in the front of my mind like it was super glued there.

What will they think of me?
