"TOMORROW YOU WILL APPLY for your assignments. And today marks the end and the disbanding of the 104th Training Corps." Keith Shadis yells in front of the newly graduated cadets. Mera stares straight ahead of her, her long brown hair tied back in a dutch braid. Her eyes were terrifyingly blank, but had the gleam of one wanting to see her mother once again after a few years of not being able to do so.

Once Shadis finally dismissed the cadets, Mera turned to Armin and hugged him tightly, the blonde reciprocating the affection. "We did it, Armin! We finally graduated!"

"We did." Armin smiled brightly, tears of relief threatening to spill out of his eyes. In his happiness, he picked Mera up by her waist and spun her around thrice, setting her back down on her feet once he was done. "I'm so glad. I'm so glad that you're still here with me, Mera."

Mera sighed deeply, her silly smile still stuck to her face. "I told you, Armin. I'll always go back to you."

"I know, and so will I." Armin murmured against her hair.

Their feelings weren't a secret, not to either of them nor to anyone in the Cadet Corps. It was painfully obvious that the two were in love with each other, and Armin and Mera didn't bother to deny it either. Yes, they were aware of their blooming love for each other, but admittedly wanted to do nothing with it just yet.

There was still no knowing when they were going to die.

"Oi! Come on, the celebration for the graduation is starting!" Eren waved the two over, cupping his mouth to exaggerate his scream. Not that he needed to anyway.

Armin intertwined their fingers once more, beaming at Mera brightly and dragging her to the mess hall. And Mera gladly let him do so, knowing that times like this don't last at all. Mera graduated first of her class, Mikasa tying with her when it comes to her scores. It didn't come as a surprise to the four at all, already knowing that Mikasa and Mera were most capable amongst the cadets.

Mera never revealed the name of her mother to her friends, as they never really asked for it ―

"Hey, Mera, I just noticed that you never really told us the name of your mother. Only that she was in the Survey Corps." Jean noted, leaning his head on his hand with a smug smirk on his face. "Tell me, were you lying about her? Or is she already dead?"

"No, it's just that you never really asked." Mera said, the light draining from her eyes as she stared at Jean. It was always like this. Mera's eyes only ever shined whenever she was around the Shiganshina trio, and other than that, the light faded from her eyes as if she was being drained of her energy. "If you're so curious, my mother is Hange. Hange Zoë."

"S-Section Commander Hange Zoë?" one of the cadets spluttered. Mera slowly spun her head around, facing them. The cadet had red hair styled quite foolishly, if you ask Mera. "You mean she's your mother? Isn't she that crazy scientist lady in the Survey Corps ―"

"My mother is one of the smartest people I have ever known in my life." Mera stated coldly. Her eyes snapped to Jean, who looked slightly afraid of her now. Her lips twitched up in a humorless smile. "Tell me Jean, did that answer your question?"

"There's no proof of her having a child. You could be bluffing ―" Jean remained confident in his opinion which made Mera scoff.

Armin clutched her hand tightly underneath the table, wanting her to ignore them and concentrate on having better times with them instead. Just then, Shadis slammed the door of the mess hall's open with an irritated look on his face. "Cadet Mera!"

Mera groaned in her head, thinking back on her actions this day and sorting her thoughts out to see exactly what she had done wrong this time. Shadis walked towards their table and picked Mera up by her collar and dragging her to the door. Armin yelped when he was nearly dragged along with the woman, letting go of her hand, albeit reluctantly.

"I can't believe the audacity of her mother, barging into my office this late into the night just to see your sorry face." Shadis ranted, the tips of his ears turning red in his rage.

"Mera~!"

"Talk about the fucking devil ―"
