Greetings badasses, hippies and readers alike and welcome to my ONC 2021 entry! *cue the dramatic trumpet solo and the ring of fire so I can practice jumping through the many, many plot holes this book will likely wield*

Not sure about you guys, but 2020 was a crazy fricken year. I moved to a new country, farewell beautiful Canada, hello sexy Scotland (talking mostly about the hillsides and not the men, sorry but I'm not that into tracksuits), quarantines ups and downs, and generally just adjusting to a whole lot of new but at the same time a whole lot of the same. And while I know my commitment to ONC burned in a blaze of glory last year, I might actually finish this one!

If I combine hopeful dreaming and totally committed, can we say the likelihood of me finishing this is somewhere in the middle? Totally dreaming? Hopefully commited? Well, you're already here so I'll try to make it through this book just for you, Jimmy.

So you may ask, what is this story about? Well kids, pull up a knee, actually don't that's a little weird, and germs. Well, pull up a chair, because this year we are exploring the glorious 1960s in all its hazy beauty. Delving into CIA and MKULTRA experimenation. Racing to put the first man on the moon and stopping a nuclear war in the process. And you know what, folks? Just because 2020 was a shit year, how about a little romance? That's right. I'm actually writing a romance.

So call this young adult, call this science fiction, call this historical fiction if you don't mind a bunch of historical inaccuracies and let's embark on a trippy, dreamy, druggy (don't know if that's a word), and acid-tastic adventure.

1969

1969. It was the year of Manson's helter-skelter, the year we put a man on the moon, and the year two strangers watched the world end in a mushroom cloud of nuclear war.

1966. This was a much better year. Well, for everyone except twenty-two-year-old Annie Edwards. Because it was the year she first saw the blonde-haired boy in her dreams. And although she believed in science, her gut told her these visions might somehow be connected to bizarre experiments happening on campus.

As Annie and the mystery man known as Dimitri watch the world erupt in their dreams, they realize that the only way to save their countries, and the world, from nuclear destruction is to work together. They'll uncover the powers of dreams and nightmares, delve into hallucinogens and insanity, and blur the line between the waking world and their subconscious.

A race to space, a delusion of mind control, and the end of the world. Welcome to an experiment in dreams, drugs and war.

Abandon hope all ye who enter here! Fore this story may not actually be mature, but may have themes not suited for all ages! In all seriousness this is a forewarning that while this story does not contain mature content there is some mild cursing, scenes of helplessness and the involvement of hallucinogenic drugs. While I have no stance on the use of drugs such as marijuana and LSD, this story is set in a period and built around a time where they were in high supply (pun intended) and use. Oddly enough, I'd like to clarify that LSD was actually legal in the United States until 1969, whereas marijuana was very illegal, so there will be some breaking of the law, but I do not encourage that by any means. This is my spin on the strange and twisted tale of MKULTRA experimentation in which the CIA tried to control people's minds. This story is inspired by these events, but I would also like to clarify that while some of the experiments featured in this story have been documented as historically accurate, these types of tests never took place under one lab or under one scientist's control. In fact, the project spanned over multiple countries and medical institutions, and most of the tests were performed on unwitting citizens like in this book. You've been warned!
