"What a brat! He's horrible!" I yelled, genuinely disgusted at what I had just seen.
"That's not even the bad stuff, it gets worse," Zach said, he looked up at me and smiled convincingly, although his eyes said otherwise; They were glassy and brimming with pain.
The room glitched and changed to a large room with wooden walls and an ivory wood floor, resembling a cabin room.We were now sat on a soft, white bed with a few action figures and one of the small porcelain boats from the sailor room on a shelf above it.
I looked at Zach; his eyes were shut firmly and he was clutching his jeans, trying his hardest to hide his shivering.
"Are you okay?" I asked quietly
"Huh? Oh! yeah, I'm fine, just a bit cold. This is m- his beach house, we would go there in the summer. I'm used to the breeze, it's just ocean breeze, nothing else." He responded with.
Okay, maybe not as good a liar as I thought.
Suddenly another zach ran up the stairs, panting. He looked about 14 and had on a black shirt with a diamond in the centre and one of Steven's jackets on, the collar up.
Close behind came Steven, also 14 and had on sandals, a blue t shirt with a star in the middle and his signature pink varsity jacket. Steven grabbed Zach by the neck and slammed him against the wall, his strength only fueled by rage.
"WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT!" Steven shouted, gritting his teeth.
Zach's eyes filled with tears as he froze with fear, stuck pinned to the wall. Steven dragged him off the wall and threw him to the floor, his anger growing by the second.
"I-I'm sorry! When that topaz cracked my gem I passed out! I was unconscious half the fight!" Zach told Steven.
Steven's anger abruptly ended and was replaced with a warm smile. He help Zach up of the floor and hugged him.
"Listen, it's okay; I forgive you" Steven whispered softly.
Zach's fists unclentched and he closed his eyes, suddenly fusing with Steven.
"That wasn't so bad, I guess?" I cheerily said, trying my best to make Zach feel better
"It's not over." He whispered, shutting his eyes for a second time.
"Zach?" Steven called out.
Mhm?
"Are you still scared of the dark?" Steven asked, one eyebrow raised.
Present Zach winced at the question, clearly traumatised by it.
Yeah, why?
Steven switched off his lights and sat in the corner of his room, grinning evily.
S-Steven? Steven, where are you! I said I am scared, you know!
"Oh, I heard," Steven responded with, smirking.
Steven, please! I don't like this!
"And I don't flipping like you yet here we are!" He exclaimed.
He ignored all of zach's pleads and instead began to laugh. His laugh was reminiscent of an apple: sweet enough and smooth enough for you to completely miss the poison it's laced with.
The room glitched again, instantly engulfing the two of us in an ebony black.
"W-Where are we?"I stammered
"Where I've been for 3 years...and where I still am" Zach whispered, tears falling down his face.
I looked up and there was a large screen, playing multiple scenes.
"All rise for Steven Universe! Son of pink diamond and saviour of the galaxy!" A voice sang out.
The curtains that were on the screen lifed and showed thousands upon thousands of multi-coloured gems cheering and applauding.
The screen kept switching clip after clip of praise, laughter and happiness. The last clip was of me, happily smiling and laughing with spinel. That was the one that made me realise what the screen was showing:
Steven's memories.
"I've been here for 3 years, you know? I called and I begged and I pleaded for 3 years and he jus-" Zach broke down and sobbed.
I hugged him and didn't even think to let go. He wasn't uncomfortable either, he just clung to me and cried his heart out, soaking the shoulder of my jumpsuit.
I didn't care.
"T-Thanks...for that" He sniffed, sitting upright and wiping his eyes.
"There's still one more thing
I need to show you..." Zach told me
The room glitched for a final time, this time changing to Steven's room.
Present Steven's room.
I only watched in horror at how Zach freed himself only for Steven to crack his gem and the terrified look on Zach's face when Steven walked towards him.
The clip ended with Steven blacking out after strangling himself and we both sat there in silence.
"It's so messed up, how he's gotten away with this for so long. They have no idea how bad he is! They all think hes so great and hes so mature and he always knows what to do but that's not true! He hasn't learned a thing from his problems, they've only made him worse! He used to be an angel, but he's not that kid anymore. Hes a fraud and a monster!" Zach yelled.
(Nice little SUF reference for you there!)
"Trust me when I say I will get you out of here" I promised Zach, hugging him.
I shot up from my bed. So I just woke up in the middle of a hug like that? No fair!
I hopped into the shower and scrubbed my body. As I lathered my (h/c) hair with the rose-scented shampoo on the rack I thought to myself:
I need to talk to Steven.
