Scattered pieces

Where have you gone this time
I whisper to myself
Digging through each and every single box.

Searching for scattered pieces
Of the worlds I leave behind
That tumble into the cracks and become lost.

Caught on countless slips of paper
Crumpled wrappers or salvaged scraps
Traces of ink and stardust can be found

A gently made, handcrafted tale,
Unique in it's magic and mystery
Found lying like a wounded soldier on the ground.

Like tiny treasures I scoop up
I gather together as much as I can
Bits to be sewn into a tapestry.

But I can't find them all on my own
Who can I find to search as well?
To help bring all the pieces back to me.

Some trapped between the covers of a book
Some lost behind an image on a screen
I reluctantly unfold my dusted off machine.

"Tell me that you saved it.
Tell me where it is,
I'll do anything to get it back"

My fingers tap the keys
Like a pianos ivories
And the screen lights up with words of boldened black.

"Hhhhhhhhnnnnnrrrrrgggg"
Says the laptop, sitting at my feet,
"No matter how you nag or you insist

The document that you keep claiming
To be searching for
Sadly doesn't currently exist.

The data is corrupted
The key is not detected,
The file in your account has been locked.

Begone you vile being of flesh
And sulk among your paper books
Continue your search in vain until you rot."

Unplug that awful device and shove it
Back into it's case,
Teach it to behave and remind it of its place

Stare at a mountain of paper notes
Covered in sparkling ink and think
"For that hunk of junk with an attitude,
Four hundred dollars went to waste."

Grab a pen and candy wrapper
And jot down a word or two

If I can't remember the start of the story
then Dammit
I'll just start over new.
