THEORIES:

☠drugs: The theory that she was under the influence of illicit drugs is popular but can easily be dismissed by the absence of them from the toxicology screen. However, theorists like to claim that the drugs she had taken might have broken down during the period of time her body decomposed in the tan, or that she might have taken rare cocktails of such drugs that a normal screen would not detect. 

☠a government cover up: This theory says that Elisa Lam didn't actually exist and all of it was a cover-up so that the government could keep it's tuberculosis test-kit under the radar. The name of the test-kit? Lam Elisa! Theorists believe that the government wanted engines to be flooded with something else so that nobody could find Lam-Elisa, thus creating a perfect murder mystery. This is further further backed by the fact that the elevator footage is heavily pixelated and does not show Elisa's face properly and has no clear timestamps. There was also an outbreak of tuberculosis in the area at the time. 

☠the paranormal: A short history of The Cecil Hotel before we get on this theory: This hotel is notorious for its dark history. Serial killers Jack Unterweger and Richard Ramirez both resided at the Cecil while active. There have also been suicides, one of which also killed a pedestrian in the front of the hotel. It was also the last known spot where Elizabeth Short of ''The Black Dahlia'' was seen before being murdered. So it's safe to say that the Cecil Hotel has a dark energy around it which might also be paranormal in nature. A lot of people have claimed to see apparitions in hotel lobbies or heard inhuman voices.

So basically this theory says that Lam was haunted by one of the ghosts of the Cecil Hotel which would explain the bizarre elevator footage as well as why the elevator doors don't close throughout the time. 

A second part of this theory is that Elisa Lam was playing The Elevator Ritual. This ritual allows players to go to the ''other world'' and if you read the instructions of this, it sounds eerily similar to what Elisa was doing, except you're not supposed to talk to the mystery woman is it could have dire consequences and Elisa looked like she was talking to someone,  which may have been the reason why she was killed by the demons from the other world.

he circumstances of Lam's death have been compared to plot elements in the 2005 horror film 'Dark Water'. In that film, a mother and daughter move into a rundown apartment building. A dysfunctional elevator and discolored water gushing from the buildings faucets eventually lead to the building's rooftop water tank, where they discover the body of a girl who had been reported missing from the building a year earlier. Further, the nae of the characters? Dahlia and Ceci as in, The Black Dahlia and the Cecil Hotel! 

A/N: While Elisa's death was unnatural to say the least, what's even weirder is her strange behavior in the elevator. Did it have something to do with her death? Tell me your thoughts ☠
