they hide us from one another really

they hide our smiles

they hide our frowns

they hide our tongues when we playfully stick them out

they muffle our voices

and slowly suffocate us

but we. behave as we slave away each day

we keep them up to please our superiors and the sensitive around us

the virus the say it can't get in

oh how I wish they would just tell us the truth

slowly we rebel from the muzzles we were forced into

tired of the itching and pulling

tired of the breakouts and the sweating

tired of our muffled voices and sore throats tired of yelling through them

how angry it makes them to learn of our exhaust over this

how angry it makes them that we refuse to cover ourselves
