“Slow down, honey!” she giggled. “I’ll be home soon!”
“But what did you get me, mommy?” asked the eager little voice making his mother giggle again.
“Oh, well that will be a surprise, sweetheart. I love you. I’ll be there soon.” She said as she balanced the phone between her shoulder and her ear.
“I love you too, mommy!”
“Oh, and Luke honey.” She started as she checked the rearview mirror.
“Yes mommy?” said little Luke, eager to cut the call and wait near the door for his mom.
“I –“ The line went dead.
