Chapter 19

Danielle and Charlotte arrived at America after a long flight. Danielle is at her house, showering. Stephanie is at the hospital, with her mom. Mrs. Roberts didn’t know that Danielle is back.

Everything seems different even though I left for two months only. The neighborhood seems quieter.  Not that it was noisy before, but now, there wasn’t even a single sound. As if everyone isn’t at home.

After showering, Danielle put on her old t-shirt. Smells like home. Danielle smiled. She liked the smell of her shirts at home. It has a certain smell that reminds her of her mother. She put on her black sunglasses.

Quickly, Danielle drove her car to Charlotte’s house. She waited for almost half an hour before Charlotte came out.

“What’s wrong?”

“It’s the devil.” Charlotte buckled up.

“Your stepmom? What did she say? Is she mad?”

“Yeah.” Charlotte frowned. “Usually she wouldn’t care. But this time she said she looked for me everywhere. She even called the police.”

“Really?”

“I don’t think so. She’s just exaggerating.”

Danielle started her car. They drove to the hospital.

“I’m starting to miss Greyson already.” Danielle smiled weakly.

“Yeah. Same with me and Cody.”

Danielle parked her car under the shade of a tree. Then, she quickly went inside the hospital.

“Excuse me. Miss?” Danielle waved to the nurse at the reception.

“Yes? What can I help you?”

“Can you tell me where is, umm, Janice Roberts’s room is?”

“Of course. It’s on the second floor, third from the left.”

“thanks.” Danielle smiled.

Daniele went into the elevator. Inside, there was a little girl around five or six years old, wearing hospital garb. She was holding a teddy bear in her right hand. She looked weak. There were black rings on her eyes.

“Hi there.” Danielle smiled.

The little didn’t respond.

“Are you here alone?” Danielle worried.

“no.” the girl answered simply.

“Really? Is your mom here?”

The girl shook her head. “God is with me.”

“ohh.” Danielle blinked her eyes. The little girl went out of the elevator.

Strange girl. Danielle shivered. She presses the elevator button.

“Hey Danny, wait up!” Charlotte hurried into the elevator.

“Where did you go?”

“I was reading something on the billboard.”

“What?”

Charlotte gave Danielle a piece of paper. “Read.”
