Chapter 31

Please be safe…

Greyson closed his face with his hands. He took a deep breath. Tried to stay calm, but he just couldn’t.

Flashbacks started to play in his mind.

The policed called him that evening, telling that Danielle is involved in an accident and she is now in a very critical condition.

An old man on a yellow motor bike found Danielle in her upside down-turned, and burning, car. By that time, Danielle was already knocked out unconscious, and the doctors said it’s been almost three hours already.

Danielle was rushed to the emergency room, and has been in there for the last three hours. Greyson was still outside, waiting for any news from the doctors.

I should never have let her leave, I should have never told her to go to the hospital, and I should have never told her to drive alone. Greyson regretted. This is all my fault that Danielle's in there fighting for her life.

A tear fell out of Greyson's eye. He took a deep breath and rested his face in the palms of his hands. He closed his face and cried.

It was supposed to be me in there, not her! Greyson thought, gritting his teeth. I was the one who should be driving the car.

The police told him that Danielle must have drove through the red lights and got hit by a passing car from the right, according to the marks and dent on her car. But the puzzle is, why did the hitter didn’t call the ambulance or the police to report the accident? Why did he just left and didn’t even bother to tell anyone about Danielle's condition?

Greyson cried even harder, knowing that someone could possibly thought of killing his girl.

Please be okay Danielle. Please be okay…

A tear fell from Greyson's eyes and rolled down his cheek. Greyson didn’t bother to wipe it.

Please, dear god, keep her safe, let it be okay.

Don’t take her away from me…

“Hey, dude, is everything okay?”

Greyson turned, and saw Cody coming into the waiting room.

“I heard the news on TV.” Cody frowned. “Is everything okay?”

Greyson took a deep breath and wiped all the tears on his face. He cleared his throat.

“The doctors haven’t said anything yet.” Greyson said, softly, his voice query.

“How long has it been?” Cody asked, looking worried.

“About three and a half hours already.” Greyson closed his face with his hands again.

He rested his elbow on his lap. Greyson tried to take a deep breath, but his chest hurts from crying too hard.

Cody remained silent. He couldn’t stand seeing his friend cry, but he couldn’t do anything to stop him from crying. Greyson’s fiancé is in the emergency room, and judging from what it looks now, it didn’t seems like Danielle is gonna make it.

But Cody has to give strength to Greyson. Greyson looks like he himself is gonna die.

Cody frowned. “She’s gonna be fine. Danielle’s a fighter.”

Greyson didn’t give any answer in respond.

They both remained silent for awhile; the only thing breaking up the silent is the ticking of the big grandfather clock beside the sofa in the waiting room.
