"Hey didi!" Amara said, her phone displaying her sister and future brother-in-law.
The quartet had landed and safely arrived to Talia's brother, Maverick's house. As they were busy settling themselves into his guest house, Laila decided to facetime her little sister to check on her.
"Yeah yeah, where's Rosie? I want to see her!" Laila replied, looking for Maverick's 4-year old daughter, Rosie.
"Gee, yeah I'm alright, thanks for asking," Amara said, rolling her eyes at the fact that she was just disregarded by her own sister. As she walked back out to Mav's house, Laila and her discussed about the wedding that was soon to happen. She entered the kitchen to be greeted by Maverick, his wife Jenna and little Rosie, on the counter top, playing with some ladles.
"Hey Laila, how's it going?" Jenna squealed with delight. Jenna and Laila had been friends for as long as Amara and Talia had been. The two models were always inseparable.
"Jenna, oh my god. It has been too long since we all hung out. Which reminds me, you and Maverick are personally invited to the wedding!" Laila said, with just as much excitement.
"Oh honey, we are not missing it for the world! My best friend is getting married!"
"About damn time you asked her Dev. You almost had me thinking you were gonna bail," Maverick said.
"I actually was thinking of bailing. I'm thinking about it right now, these women are crazy," Dev replied, earning himself a slap to the arm by Laila. He rubbed his arm and frowned at her, but eventually realised, he deserved that.
The squabble between Laila and Dev, earned a hearty laughter from Rosie.
"Rosie, dear god, you're so big now! How old is she this year?" Dev questioned.
"Four. Can you believe it? Time really passes by quick," said Maverick. He looked down at his angel, who had her curly brown hair in a top knot, a bow accompanying it.
"Yeah. I can't wait 'till you two have kids," Jenna intercepted.
"Oh, we already have two children. We're not really planning to add another one quite soon," Laile replied.
"Wait, two? What the hell are you talking about?" Amara questioned, zooming the phone back on her, so she could hear Laila and Dev more clearly.
"Yeah two. You and Timothee. Annoying kids, always flirting publicly and shit," Dev said causing Jenna to remind him not to curse while they were in the presence of her young daughter.
"Yeah, what's up with that? Are you two dating?" Jenna asked.
"No!" Amara replied. However, replying to quickly did not favour her argument, the way she wanted it to.
"Mhmm, sure. We see you on social media, complementing each other and all that jazz. Friends don't do that, Amara," Maverick teased, trying to get in on the information Amara was obviously hiding.
"Friends do complement each other," Amara said.
"Not like that they don't," Jenna backed her husband up.
"We are not dating. And that is the tea. Thank you very much," Amara said, with an expression of calmness, even though she was jittery inside. The husband and wife simply raised their eyebrows at the younger girl, not believing a word she was saying, but respecting her anyways.
As Amara proceeded to leave the kitchen with Rosie perched on her right hip and talking to Laila and Dev on her phone, Maverick and Jenna glanced knowingly towards each other.
"What is with the kids these days? They all not brave as we were," Maverick said.
"Maybe she just doesn't want to ruin her new found friendship with the boy. Give it time Mav, you're not her dad, you know," Jenna chuckled, continuing her preparations to make dinner.
"Her dad? No. I'm her elder brother just as much as I am one to Talia. She thinks she's good at hiding but you and I know how upset she is right now."
"I know baby but if she doesn't want us involved then we can't do much, can we? Besides, it's not Amara, I'm more worried about right now," Jenna paused, "Do you think Tals has told him?" she asked.
Maverick looked out the window upon his wife's question. In their backyard, he saw Luca and his younger sister talking and laughing. If he didn't know better, he would have thought the two were a couple.
"I doubt it. She ignores me everytime I ask her," he said.
"Well then maybe you should talk to her again. It's been years Mav. Containing feelings like that for too long isn't good for anyone," Jenna said solemnly. "I know that boy feels the same way too. She ain't got nothing to worry about."
"Like I said, kids these days. They're all a bunch of pussies."
"Maverick! You're lucky our daughter ain't here right now, or I would have whooped your ass for that language," Jenna scolded.
Maverick laughed at his wife's remark, before helping her with dinner preparations. He made a mental note to have a little chat with Talia. He figured it was better to talk to her tomorrow instead, letting her and her friend settle in tonight.
