PACE TWO: Sound of the Flute

It’s Monday today and it’s almost 12:00 p.m. Our Math class is nearing its end when suddenly; I heard a sound of flute somewhere...

Judging by how loud the sound I’m hearing from here at the top floor of the High School building of the Academy, I’d say that the one who’s playing it is in the back garden which is about fifty meters away from this four storey building.

My senses of hearing and sight are much stronger than a normal person’s, so I could hear and see something within two kilometer radius.

What’s cool about it is that I can deactivate it whenever I want to. But I’m so used to it by now, that I don’t usually pay any attention to what I hear or see from afar except if it’s something strange or interesting.

Mom said that some other Hayprinians like us have the same abilities, too, but I didn’t grew up in the Haypri Area that is one of the three areas in the dimension of Alliria. She only told me about the names of the three areas there, but I knew too little about the three tribes, because she’s always dodging the topic whenever I ask.

I was born in Alliria, but I grew up here, where Kilick---so as the people of Alliria call the normal ones---resides.

I want to know a lot about the dimension of Alliria, because I believe that even if this place was the only world I knew from the beginning, Alliria is the dimension where I truly belong...

Sometimes, I feel like I’m getting tired of hiding my true form...

My hand balled into fist as I thought of that, but I tried not to get affected by it too much and shook those thoughts aside.

I listened to the sound of the flute, again and it made my heart warm up...

The melody of it was so good to hear that I almost want to close my eyes and transfer all my attention to it. I couldn’t even understand what our teacher is saying because of it.

I wonder who’s playing it... That person has some skills, I guess...

“That’s it for today, Class, see you, tomorrow.” Ma’am Santos said which signals the end of our class.

One by one, some of my classmates stand up from their seats and said their goodbyes to her while going outside the room...

I couldn’t stop myself from yawning, so I instantly stretched my arm and neck to shake that slight sleepiness I felt.

Hm, the sound of the flute’s gone now...

“Winter, aren’t you going out already?” Alexis asked while approaching me. Beside him are our other friends---Xannia and Sheya who are also my classmates. “Let’s go to our usual place for lunch.”

“Ah, yeah, sorry... I just felt a bit sleepy...” I apologized, starting to put my stuff back to my bag that was under my table.

“You two should go and buy your food at the Cafeteria; Xannia and I need to walk somewhere else first. We’ll also eat our lunch at the usual place once we’re done.” Sheya explained, putting her arm around Xannia’s.

“Where are the two of you going?” Alexis asked with kind of disappointed tone in his voice, furrowing his eyebrows a little at Sheya.

“It isn’t necessary for you to know...” instead of her, Xannia was the one who replied to Alexis. “I just need to talk to Sheya alone.”

“She wants to speak about something you two aren’t allowed to know.” Sheya added, shaking her head a little from side to side.

“What? Is it so important that you’d rather eat your lunch later than usual?” Alexis seems irritated now.
