For the next two mornings, you can hear me scream my lungs out, cry and eventually sob. Peeta’s presence really eases things up, he held my hand and wipes my sweat with his towel. Finally, by the fifth day I’m already allowed to walk around, another minute inside my room would really kill me. Peeta and I were walking down the hallway when we overheard Gale and Johanna’s conversation.
“There they are, say sorry to them.” Johanna says
“Why should I say sorry? Technically he really did hurt Katniss” says Gale
I hold Peeta’s hand tighter to give him a sign that it’s not true. I mean that yes, it hurts badly that day but it’s not his fault.
“GALE FREAKING HAWTHORNE!” Johanna shouted and we all looked at her as she says “Say sorry to them right now!” giving Gale her feisty look, he walks towards us and I push Peeta gently to my back
“Stay there, he wouldn’t hurt me.” I whisper to Peeta and he nodded
“I’m sorry Katniss.” Gale says
“I don’t think I’m the one you should say sorry to Gale.” I say to him as I hold Peeta’s hand behind my back, Gale looks irritated but Johanna stands at her side and stares at him making sure he says sorry. At least for once, I know that Johanna is not that of a bad insensitive girl that I misjudged.
“I’m sorry too baker boy. I didn’t mean to punch you.” Gale says, I saw Peeta nod so now I know they’re in good terms
“and???” Johanna adds while looking at him
“And what? I’m not sorry for it, let’s go!” Gale says then he grabs Johanna’s hands and walks away
“Gale! What was it?” I shouted but he didn’t turn “GALE!” I shout again
“Just say sorry for it Hawthorne! Damn it!” Johanna says then she removes her hand from Gale’s grip
“I’m sorry okay! I’m sorry Katniss but I’m not sorry for you bread boy!” he shouts at me then turns to Johanna “Are you happy now?” he asks
“Why? What are you sorry for?” I ask him but he won’t tell, I look at Johanna for an answer. I’m starting to get irritated and was about to walk out when Johanna spits it out
“Oh for the love of!!! He kissed you brainless!” I turn around
“He did what?” Peeta and I both ask
“Kissed you, the first day of your healing session. You were deep asleep and he kissed you on the lips.” Johanna says
“Screw you Johanna, LET’S GO!” Gale shouted, I didn’t know what to do or how to react to what she said, I feel guilty and embarrassed at Peeta
“Wait!” Peeta says then he punched Gale full force at his face and he falls down on the floor. “Now I’m not sorry too for what I did” Peeta grabs my hands and we walked away. We walked so far until we reach the boundaries of the cells and the forest above. My heart starts to pound fast and my feet are starting to hurt.
“Peeta stop! I need to breathe please. Stop.” I tell him and we stopped. I try to catch my breath for a while before talking again
“I’m sorry” Peeta says
“For walking too fast and not stopping?” I breathe “You should be sorry…fast walking…with this growing baby…inside me really is hard!” I tell him in between deep breaths
“For that and for hitting Gale.” He says
“Don’t be sorry for that, I would have done the same and…” I look at him “I’m really sorry Peeta, I didn’t know that he…” he cut me off with a kiss
“We both didn’t know so don’t say sorry” he says
“I know but still, I feel guilty so sor…” he cuts me off again with a kiss
“Another sorry and I swear! I’ll kiss you again,” he says trying to make the best impression of what I said to him the last time and we both laugh. I stop and think, What if Peeta is hiding something from me? I know I’m not, I mean the thing with Gale, that doesn’t count since I didn’t know it myself but what if Peeta?
“But seriously Peeta, you know that I love you and I’m not keeping anything from you right?” he nods “and that thing with Gale, I really didn’t know anything I swear. I’m sor--”
He kiss me again long this time so I kissed him back but he pulls away “I told you I’ll kiss you if you say sorry one more time.” I smile and just stare at him, at his blue eyes “I believe you, you didn’t know either so it’s okay. Don’t worry about him.”
“Promise me you won’t hide anything from me?” I ask just to make sure and he just smiles
“From the first time I saw you and heard you sing when we were five I knew right away that I’m a goner, and I promise you I won’t ever ever EVER hide anything from you Katniss. Even if it is one of my secret recipes”
“You can keep your secret recipes to yourself; I can’t bake anything edible no matter how hard I try.”
“You will get it eventually, I’ll teach you sometime.”
After the talk we snuck out of the cell and into the forest for a while and just relax. Me laying down on the grass besides Peeta, not caring about the world until I realize that in 2 days I will be leaving again for the mission. I start to tear up and in an instant Peeta wipes away my tears,
“Hey, why are you crying?” he asks
“I just realize that I’ll be leaving again in 2 days, I don’t want to leave, what if we lose the mission because of me? What will happen? What will Coin do to you and my family back in Thirteen?”
“I don’t know what she’s capable of doing but I assure you that we won’t fail this mission”
“How will you know?”
“I know Katniss, I’ll help you. I will never leave you.” He pauses and sighs, “This was supposed to be a surprise but I’ll tell you anyway. Coin still wants me to go with you to the mission.”
“She did?” I ask, after what happen and how Peeta reacts to the simulation, I thought Coin will not let him come with us anymore. That is very odd of her; she is being too nice to Peeta, or me? Maybe I misjudged her too. Maybe she only really wants Snow to be dead. “So nice of her to let you go” I add
“Yeah, she’s not that bad Katniss, she didn’t even do anything to me despite of what happened.”
“Yeah I guess so, maybe I should thank her for it. Thank you too Peeta.”
“For what?” he asks
“For always being here, protecting and loving me.” I look at him and he smiles
“I could never leave you; I could not stop loving you no matter what the Capitol did to me. I will stay with you forever and ALWAYS” he then kiss me on my lips that just melts me away, I kiss him back before we return to my room to rest
