Chapter Two

Maddy

Negotiations

"So," Xaldentar began as Ryder soothed Bella, clutching her in his arms, once again stroking her hair, calming her to the point of relaxation, while I pulled the sword from the top of his head, and setting it onto the stone next to him, the blade pointing down, perfectly on it's point, "I see that you want the girl, but she is the only thing that keeps me from starving," I could see the anger bursting in Ryder's red eyes, I could see the angry fires of hell bursting in his eyes from his anger. It didn't make sense seeing Songbird there that Xaldentar could not feed. I thought I had seen the angriest that Ryder could get to, but this was not anger, it was pure rage.

"HOW DARE YOU USE MY BELLA AS A FOOD SOURCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!," Ryder screamed at him, ripping out his sword as Songbird walked up next to Xaldentar, laying her head on his shoulder. Songbird was a cute girl. She had black hair and blue eyes. Then I saw the pinprick fangs as she smiled at Bella. I realized he couldn't drink from Songbird because she was a vampire as well. I then noticed the blood running down her chin as well. She must have fed from Bella just as Xaldentar had. She was a thin girl with a torn up shirt, showing the flesh of her breasts somewhat. I could practically see fire coming out of Ryder's eyes. I saw the Hell portal behind Xaldentar, and floating, flickering umbrella-sword thing. I was surprised that he could open it telepathically, "You have no right to kidnap, and feed from another vampire's serf(we changed the name to one that dated back to the Medieval times, but it meant the same thing)," Xaldentar actually looked afraid. Songbird stood close to him holding his arm, quivering under Ryder's fury, her blue eyes flickering magenta under his wrath, "By the laws of Alysia, it is a punishable-by-death crime to drink from another's dra- serf, therefore, you should be dead after all the vampires you already killed." I think that was the most strict on the rules he had ever been. Whenever there's a rule, he usually breaks it. But now he's yelling at Xaldentar about breaking the "Source" rule, but then again, he is very protective of Bella.

"I had no choice," he yelled defensively, removing his sword from it's sheath after pushing away Songbird who fell near Bella who Ryder had laid on the floor. Songbird jumped in front of Bella in a nearly imperceptable movement, blocking her view of the men, believing that there would be bloodshed, "She was the only food I'd had in two months."

"And I said that he could," Bella said weakly from her position on the ground, sitting up straight. She had pushed Songbird away from her face and was looking ashamed, "I said that he could feed from me," When I saw the look of absolute horror on Ryder's face, I almost laughed, "When he said he needed my permission to drink from me I told him, 'absolutely,' once I knew how long it had been since he had drank. Please don't be mad." I saw anger and sadness in Ryder's face, the red smoke from the focus turning an ugly puce color, to green, to black, to white, then back to puce, with Ryder's face even paler than it normally was, making it completely white.

"I'm not mad," he told her, looking stern, the smoke turning red again, and seeping into the focus, he lifted her from the ground, supporting her by her waist, "But I must ask you to never do that again. I was afraid he had done something unspeakable to you. I can NOT lose you again." The look of surprise on Bella's face was insanely funny, but I knew better to laugh at her with Ryder's sword at hand and a Hell portal nearby. After she had said her piece, Xaldentar said that he no longer had a need for her since he had noticed the portal behind him, so we could take her in peace since he had JUMPED IN and grabbed a bunch of people from within Hell, and fed from them, knowing that they would re-spawn in hell. I was tempted to tell Ryder to close the portal and lock him in, but I knew that we were no match for even Songbird in a fight. It was a great adventure I would never forget for the (hopefully) many years of being a vampire in the future.
